Role Summary

The Shift Engineer Heat Treatment is responsible for supervising and executing heat-treatment operations during the assigned shift. The role ensures production targets, quality standards, and safety protocols are consistently met while maintaining smooth functioning of furnaces and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor, operate, and control heat-treatment processes such as carburizing, hardening, tempering, annealing, normalizing, etc.
• Ensure daily production plans are achieved as per shift targets.
• Maintain process parameters (temperature, cycle time, quenching media, hardness).
• Coordinate with maintenance for any equipment breakdowns or preventive maintenance.
• Maintain proper utilization of manpower, equipment, and materials.
• Ensure heat-treated components meet required **mechanical & metallurgical properties**.
• Verify hardness values, microstructure results, and process consistency.
• Implement corrective actions for process deviations.
• Ensure adherence to IATF/ISO quality standards.
• Ensure 100% compliance with safety, environment, and housekeeping standards.
• Conduct safety checks on furnaces, quenching systems, and handling equipment.
• Monitor usage of PPE and enforce safe work practices within the team.
• Maintain shift reports, production logs, furnace charts, and process records.
• Record furnace cycle data and ensure traceability of batches.
• Handover detailed shift updates to the next shift engineer.
• Supervise operators, technicians, and contract manpower.
• Provide on-job training to operators on heat-treatment operations.
• Assign tasks and ensure productivity during the shift.

Skills & Competencies:

• Good knowledge of heat-treatment processes and furnace operation.
• Understanding of metallurgy, microstructure, and hardness testing.
• Basic knowledge of 5S, Kaizen, Lean manufacturing.
• Problem-solving and root-cause analysis capabilities.
• Strong communication and shift-handling skills.

Education & Experience:

• Diploma / BE in Mechanical
• 25 years of experience in Heat Treatment (Continuous / Batch furnaces).
• Experience in automotive, forging, machining, or component manufacturing preferred.
