Job SummaryThe QC Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing all quality control activities within the packaging plant. This includes ensuring that plastic packaging products such as thermoformed trays, cutlery, foam, and shrink/poly wraps meet customer requirements, industry standards, and internal quality benchmarks. The role demands leadership in team management, process improvement, and compliance to regulatory and certification norms.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead the QC team and oversee daily inspection, testing, and quality documentation.
Develop and maintain quality control plans, inspection standards, and sampling procedures.
Ensure incoming raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods meet specification standards.
Monitor production processes to identify and correct quality deviations proactively.
Establish and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for inspection and testing.
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for quality issues.
Manage calibration and maintenance of testing equipment (tensile, bursting, sealing, thickness, GSM testers, etc.).
Coordinate with R&D, production, and maintenance teams for new product trials and validations.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives through 5S, Kaizen, and defect reduction programs.
Handle customer quality complaints and prepare reports for client feedback and resolution.
Maintain documentation for ISO, GMP, BRC, or FSSC audits and certifications.
Train and mentor QC staff in quality tools, testing methods, and best practices.
Analyze and report quality KPIs (rejection rate, rework %, defect trends, customer complaints).
Key Skills & CompetenciesStrong knowledge of plastic packaging materials and manufacturing processes (thermoforming, extrusion, shrink wrapping, etc.).
Sound understanding of testing procedures, quality tools (SPC, 7 QC Tools, FMEA, CAPA), and process validation.
Working knowledge of ISO 9001, BRC Packaging, GMP, HACCP, or FSSC 22000 standards.
Excellent leadership, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Strong documentation, audit management, and communication skills.
Proficiency in MS Office, ERP/SAP, and statistical quality reporting.
Qualification & ExperienceEducation: B.Tech / M.Tech / B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science, Packaging Technology, or related field.
Experience: Minimum 25 years in Quality Control/Assurance, with at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role within the plastic packaging industry.
Preferred ExposureExperience in customer audits, supplier quality development, and third-party certifications.
Exposure to lean manufacturing and Six Sigma concepts.
Ability to handle multi-product packaging lines (trays, foam, poly wrap, shrink, etc.).
