Principal Environmental Specialist

As the Principal Environmental Specialist at IFC, your role will be crucial in providing leadership and guidance to IFC's South Asia region E&S team, clients, investment, and advisory teams. Your primary responsibility will be to manage environmental risk in accordance with IFC Performance Standards to ensure compliance and enhance the impact and additionality of IFC-supported investments and advisory mandates. Some key responsibilities include: - Providing technical advice and leading complex environmental and social risks in new investments and advisory engagements. - Leading E&S project teams for large and complex projects, ensuring effective risk management and solutions for clients. - Monitoring and responding to stakeholder grievances and proactively managing environmental and social performance of high-risk projects. - Distilling E&S risk trends in IFC's portfolio and providing input for portfolio analysis. - Supporting the Regional E&S Manager in coordinating operations and engaging with the risk team. - Mentoring and coaching staff to ensure high-quality work performance. - Participating in strategic decision-making regarding IFC's role in enhancing E&S risk management. Qualifications required for this role include: - Advanced degree in environmental sciences, social science, engineering, or relevant discipline. - Minimum of fifteen years of relevant professional experience, including private sector experience in sustainability and E&S risk management. - International experience with a preference for experience in the South Asia region. - Strong communication skills in English; knowledge of regional languages is advantageous. - Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills. - Deep knowledge of IFC's Sustainability Framework and Performance Standards.
