Overview

Frontier Foundry (F²) is a bold new innovation engine — a design-led, full-stack engineering team delivering multimodal, AI-powered experiences across Surface, Windows, and Copilot. Operating outside traditional platform constraints, F² is built to move fast, think big, and build from the edge.

We’re looking for a Principal Engineering Manager who thrives in dynamic environments, codes with vibe, and leads with clarity. You’ll lead full-stack engineering squads through fast-paced execution cycles, delivering functional software increments that push the boundaries of interaction, intelligence, and integration.

This role demands a hands-on leader who’s not afraid to dive into architecture, code, and prototyping. You’ll be expected to foster a culture where experimentation is the norm and velocity is the default. You’ll also champion “vibe coding” — leveraging AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot, Copilot Studio, AI Foundry and other frontier accelerators to unlock creativity and ship faster.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 15+ years of technical engineering experience, including 3+ years in engineering leadership. And programming skills in one or more languages: C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
OR equivalent experience.

Proven ability to lead in fast-paced environments with minimal structure.

Strong technical background in full-stack development.

Experience with multimodal interfaces (e.g., touch, voice, sensors) and AI agent development.

Deep familiarity with GitHub Copilot, Copilot Studio, AI Foundry, or other similar AI-enhanced developer tools.

Passion for innovation, design-led development, and building from the edge.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience building agents, extensions, or projects on top of platforms like GitHub Copilot, Copilot Studio, or similar AI frameworks is a significant plus.

Sharp product and design instincts — able to shape user-facing experiences and make informed trade-offs.

Ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic and ambiguous environments with minimal structure.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Lead and mentor multiple high-performing engineering squads aligned to F²’s core charters: Surface Acceleration, Multimodal Innovation, and AI Agents.

Be hands-on with architecture, code reviews, and prototyping.

Bring strong product design and user experience sensibilities.

Drive execution of agile, high-velocity sprint cycles with a bias for impact.

Champion “vibe coding” — using AI-assisted tools to accelerate iteration, reduce boilerplate, and amplify developer creativity.

Navigate evolving priorities with ingenuity, turning loosely defined ideas into tangible software outcomes.

Foster a culture of agility, experimentation, and outcome-driven development.
