Job Description

WSP is seeking an Principal Consultant - GeoEnvironment Technical Lead to join to join our large and growing technical support team in Bangalore to work with our Canada wide national Environment team. The successful applicant will work closely with WSP s Canadian Environmental Management teams to identify and develop support opportunities. Our Environmental Management service line includes teams working in contaminated lands management & remediation, due diligence, and environmental health & safety.

The successful applicant will lead a team of environmental specialists who will be part of WSP GCC Canadian Environment Team, delivering the highest standards of technical work and aiding the continued success of the environmental business by assisting us in our client focused delivery of projects. As the key point of contact for our Canadian-based business, they will liaise directly with the Environmental Management service line leader.

  • Educated to Bachelor / Master s degree level in a relevant environmental or engineering subject

  • 10-15 years experience working with an environmental consultancy

BGV:

  • Employment with WSP India is subject to the successful completion of a background verification ( BGV ) check conducted by a third-party agency appointed by WSP India.
  • Candidates are advised to ensure that all information provided during the recruitment process including documents uploaded is accurate and complete, both to WSP India and its BGV partner .

Project management, technical leadership and timely delivery of technical outputs from inception to completion with a range of internal Canadian colleagues including:

  • You will participate in a team environment, working closely as needed with Project Coordinators, Project Managers, Senior Project Directors/Technical Leads and field teams.

  • You will review environmental assessments including baseline environmental investigations, preliminary site investigations, detailed site investigations as necessary to understand the status of the site in terms of the Alberta Contaminated Lands Framework.

  • You will prepare liability assessments for a variety of clients following the most current AER requirements.

  • You will apply quality assurance/quality control measures in the completion of your assessments.

  • You will prepare the required deliverables and be familiar with AER s OneStop for report submissions when required.

  • Five or more years experience in environmental assessment and contaminated sites practice areas.

  • Field experience is an asset. Experience in Site-Specific Liability Assessments (SSLA) addressing the AER Liability Management Framework.

  • Cost estimating experience including preparation of estimates related to Provisions / Asset Retirement Obligations for financial reporting.

  • Experience in due diligence acquisition and divestment transactions for oil & gas properties.

  • A bachelor s degree or diploma in environmental, earth sciences, engineering, or similar field from a recognized educational institution.

  • Extensive experience in data analysis using MS Excel/Access.

  • Registration with professional organization is preferred (e. g. APEGA, EGBC, AIA, ASET) Skip to main content.

  • Act as the face of the India-based Environmental Management team

  • Local health and safety, welfare, risk, information security, and assessment / compliance

  • Project, programme and financial management

  • Closely work with WSP s Canadian RPM Team

  • Supervising the preparation and checking of documents, reports and other technical outputs / deliverables from a variety of Environmental-related disciplines

  • Provide highly visible, inspirational leadership and direction for the GCC Environmental Management team and ensuring that it is aligned with the wider Canada business

  • Facilitating team members towards professional accreditation or equivalent

  • Carry out and report on staff appraisals and performance development reviews

  • Recruitment to achieve budgeted and programmed team growth

  • Monitor and review team capability in the use of the required standards, processes and software tools and, with technical colleagues, identify training required

  • Identify opportunities to upskill existing technical resources or recruit new capabilities to deliver additional services or enhance existing ones

  • Identify further skills that could be brought into the GCC to deliver additional services or enhancements to the Environmental Management businesses

  • Promote the teams achievements within the team, Environmental Management business, WSP Canada and the wider business via targeted profile raising activities

  • Ensuring that quality procedures are implemented and maintained

  • Seek regular feedback on team performances, ensure criticisms are positively converted into opportunities for improvement, lessons learned exercises with appropriate changes implemented

  • Contribution to bids and marketing material

  • Contribute to the design of operational processes, systems, quality measurement processes and achievement of performance KPIs

  • Interpretation of statutory and industry requirements, standards and practices to our Strategies and Policies

  • Carry out review of adherence to Quality processes and implement corrective measures where required

  • Capacity to visit Canada at least once a year for up to 2 weeks and a longer stretch at the beginning of employment

Desired Skills

  • Track record of successfully delivering environmental projects, meeting client needs, as well as programme and budgetary constraints

  • Proven ability to apply innovation and advanced techniques to projects and contract solutions

  • A versatile experience across multiple markets and sectors, such as infrastructure, industrial and energy, transportation, and buildings within the context of a professional services provider

  • Ability to work in a mixed Cascade/Agile delivery process

  • Experienced with managing an environmental team, supporting an environmental business based outside of India

  • Not mandatory but preferable: experience in the Canadian or USA environmental field

  • Membership of relevant professional institution
