Job Description

Role Overview: As a Power Systems Engineer at Catalyx Space, you will be responsible for overseeing the spacecraft Electrical Power System (EPS) from power budgets and architecture to build, test, integration, and on-orbit support. Key Responsibilities: - Define satellite power budgets based on mission profile, subsystems, and orbit. - Architect EPS including solar array conditioning, Battery Management System (BMS), and regulated/unregulated buses. - Create schematics and PCBs, select converters, regulators, and Power Distribution Unit (PDU) components. - Analyze efficiency, thermal performance, redundancy, and fault-tolerance of the system. - Develop and validate Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) and battery charge/discharge algorithms. - Conduct worst-case/derating studies and radiation-tolerance assessments. - Lead Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and work on reliability risk mitigation. - Source and evaluate space-qualified or High-Reliability (Hi-Rel) parts. - Maintain documentation for design, analysis, test, and integration processes. - Provide support for in-orbit operations including monitoring battery health, array performance, and bus stability. - Collaborate with systems engineering team to optimize reliability, mass, and cost of the power system. Qualifications Required: - B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Electrical Engineering (EE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), or Power related field, or equivalent experience. - Typically 2-6 years of experience in spacecraft EPS or power-electronics hardware. - Proficiency in DC-DC topologies, switching regulators, and Battery Management Systems (BMS). - Hands-on experience with KiCad, Altium, OrCAD, LTspice, PLECS, or similar tools. - Knowledge of space-grade components, derating standards, and radiation effects. - Proficiency in MATLAB and Python for power-budget modeling. - Familiarity with solar cells, Li-ion batteries, and power conditioning. - Exposure to Thermal Vacuum (TVAC) testing, Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) / Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing, and vibration testing. - Experience in FMECA, reliability assessments, and strong documentation skills.
