University: Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) Country: Netherlands Deadline: 27 June 2025 Fields: Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering Postdoctoral Researcher Position: Development of Sustainable Medium Manganese Steels Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to join a European research project focused on the development of next-generation medium manganese (Mn) steels for advanced manufacturing. This project, funded by the Research Fund for Coal and Steel, aims to create innovative steel alloys optimized for casting and remanufacturing through Directed Energy Deposition (DED), an advanced additive manufacturing technology. The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of sustainable and efficient production methods, supporting the circular economy and extending the lifecycle of critical steel components. The project offers a collaborative environment involving both academic and industrial partners, providing exposure to the entire manufacturing value chain from alloy design to final component validation. Requirements – PhD in metallurgy, materials science, or a closely related field, with a focus on microstructure development and modelling in metals. – Expertise in experimental microstructural analysis and computational modelling of microstructure evolution in metallic systems. – Strong critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. – Excellent communication skills with experience in scientific writing and presentations. – Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary, international teams. – Willingness to participate in educational activities, including guest lectures. – Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Employment Conditions – Three-year contract. – Full-time position (36-40 hours per week). – Salary and benefits according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. – Flexible work schedules and a customizable compensation package. – Relocation support and dual career assistance for partners.
