This project, funded by the Research Fund for Coal and Steel, aims to create innovative steel alloys optimized for casting and remanufacturing through Directed Energy Deposition (DED), an advanced additive manufacturing technology. The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of sustainable and efficient production methods, supporting the circular economy and extending the lifecycle of critical steel components. The project offers a collaborative environment involving both academic and industrial partners, providing exposure to the entire manufacturing value chain from alloy design to final component validation. Requirements – PhD in metallurgy, materials science, or a closely related field, with a focus on microstructure development and modelling in metals. – Expertise in experimental microstructural analysis and computational modelling of microstructure evolution in metallic systems. – Strong critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. – Excellent communication skills with experience in scientific writing and presentations. – Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary, international teams. – Willingness to participate in educational activities, including guest lectures. – Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
