Planning Engineer

Roles and Responsibilities of a Planning Engineer

1. Project Planning & Scheduling

• Develop project baseline schedules using tools like MS Project/Primavera.
  
• Break down project scope into Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  
• Define activity sequences, durations, and resource requirements.
  

2. Monitoring & Progress Control

• Track project progress against the baseline schedule.
  
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
  
• Identify slippages and delays, and recommend corrective actions.
  

3. Resource Management

• Plan manpower, materials, and equipment requirements in line with the schedule.
  
• Monitor resource utilization to avoid underuse or over-allocation.
  
• Assist in material forecasting for procurement planning.
  

4. Cost, Billing & Budget Control

• Support project cost estimation and budgeting activities.
  
• Prepare and verify

  client billing

  based on approved measurements and progress.
• Check and certify

  sub-contractor billing

  against site records and work done.
• Monitor cost versus progress and highlight potential overruns.
  
• Prepare cash flow forecasts based on project schedules.
  

5. Coordination & Communication

• Coordinate with project managers, site engineers, QS, and other departments.
  
• Liaise with clients and consultants for schedule updates and approvals.
  
• Present progress updates and highlight risks to senior management.
  

6. Risk Management

• Identify schedule risks and prepare mitigation strategies.
  
• Conduct delay analysis and provide Extension of Time (EOT) justifications when required.
  

7. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain updated project schedules, billing logs, and planning documentation.
  
• Provide variance analysis (Planned vs. Actual progress).
  
• Support preparation of project completion and closing reports.
