Roles and Responsibilities of an HSE Engineer

1. Health & Safety Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations, codes, and standards.
  
• Implement company HSE policies and project-specific safety plans at the site.
  
• Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections regularly.
  

2. Workplace Safety Monitoring

• Monitor site activities to identify unsafe acts/conditions and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  
• Verify that workers use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly.
  
• Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  

3. Incident & Accident Management

• Record, investigate, and report accidents, incidents, and near-misses.
  
• Recommend preventive and corrective measures to avoid recurrence.
  
• Maintain incident/accident statistics and present them to management.
  

4. Training & Awareness

• Conduct safety induction training for all new employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
  
• Organize toolbox talks, safety drills, and awareness programs regularly.
  
• Educate site staff on emergency preparedness and safe work practices.
  

5. Emergency Preparedness

• Develop and implement emergency response plans for fire, accidents, and natural disasters.
  
• Coordinate mock drills and ensure readiness of firefighting and first-aid equipment.
  
• Ensure evacuation routes and emergency exits are always accessible.
  

6. Environmental Protection

• Monitor compliance with environmental standards on waste management, water, and air quality.
  
• Ensure proper disposal of construction waste and control of site pollution.
  
• Promote energy-saving and eco-friendly practices at the workplace.
  

7. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain HSE documentation including permits, safety checklists, and audit reports.
  
• Prepare and submit daily/weekly/monthly HSE reports to management and client.
  
• Ensure all statutory records and licenses are up to date.
  

8. Coordination & Support

• Liaise with project managers, site engineers, and subcontractors for implementing HSE measures.
  
• Coordinate with external agencies, regulatory bodies, and clients on safety and environmental issues.
  
• Support ISO, OHSAS, and other certification/audit processes.
