Ocean Freight Pricing Specialist

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain strong rapport with shipping lines, NVOCCs, and

carriers to secure competitive freight rates and reliable space allocation.

• Handle pricing requests for export and import shipments (FCL / LCL) for

Chennai, Tuticorin, and Bangalore trade lanes.

• Ensure timely submission of quotes to the sales team and support them with

accurate pricing strategies to close business.

• Negotiate short-term and long-term contracts with carriers to optimize cost

and service levels.

• Maintain updated rate sheets, surcharges, and carrier tariffs in the system

for easy access by internal teams.

• Work closely with sales, operations, and product development teams to

support growth in ocean freight volumes.

• Build and leverage relationships with carriers to obtain priority allocations

during peak season.

• Provide market intelligence reports to management for decision-making.

• Ensure compliance with company standards, margin guidelines, and

customer-specific requirements.

• Conduct regular market analysis to monitor freight trends, competitor

activities, and trade route dynamics.

Key Requirements

• Minimum 57 years of experience in ocean freight pricing / procurement

with exposure to Chennai, Tuticorin, and Bangalore markets.

• Strong carrier and liner rapport with proven track record of securing

competitive deals.

• Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management

skills.

• Ability to handle multiple pricing requests under tight deadlines.

• Sound knowledge of global shipping trends, surcharges, trade lanes, and

seasonal dynamics.

• Proficiency in MS Excel and familiarity with pricing tools / ERP systems in

logistics.

• Team player with the ability to collaborate across functions.

Preferred Background

• Experience with Freight Forwarders / NVOCCs / Shipping Lines.

• Strong understanding of EXIM procedures and carrier pricing strategies.

• Candidate based in Chennai with flexibility to travel to Tuticorin / Bangalore

when required.
