Job Description

MIG (Metal Inert Gas) and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welders fabricate and repair metal components by fusing them using specific arc welding techniques. Key responsibilities include interpreting blueprints, selecting materials, setting up and maintaining equipment, performing high-quality welds on various metals, inspecting the welds for structural integrity, adhering to safety protocols, and conducting quality checks to ensure the work meets industry standards.   Core Responsibilities for Both MIG and TIG Welders Blueprint Interpretation: Reading and understanding technical drawings, specifications, and schematics to determine project requirements and weld procedures.  Equipment Operation and Setup: Operating welding machines, tools, and equipment, including setting up appropriate gas ratios and parameters.  Material Preparation: Preparing metal surfaces for welding by cleaning and sometimes grinding them.  Welding: Fusing metal parts together using the appropriate MIG or TIG welding techniques.  Quality Assurance: Inspecting completed welds to ensure structural soundness and compliance with industry standards.  Safety Compliance: Following strict safety protocols and maintaining a clean and organized work area.  Maintenance: Performing minor adjustments and maintaining welding equipment.  Specific Aspects of MIG Welding Material Variety: Welding a broad range of metals and alloys.  Efficiency: Performing faster, more productive welds, especially suitable for thicker materials.  Skill Level: While generally considered easier to learn than TIG, it still requires good hand-eye coordination and physical strength.  Specific Aspects of TIG Welding Precision: Excelling in precision tasks, particularly with thin materials.  Aesthetics: Producing neat, precise welds that often require less finishing work.  Versatility: Welding various metals like stainless steel and aluminum with high control and accuracy.  Key Skills and Qualities Attention to Detail: Essential for precise welding and quality control.  Problem-Solving: The ability to troubleshoot issues and find solutions during the welding process.  Physical Dexterity: Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for precise movements.  Communication: Clear communication with team members to coordinate work and understand technical instructions.
