Job Title: Mid Firmware / Embedded System Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Mid Firmware / Embedded System Engineer to join our R&D team at Talrop. The ideal candidate will be responsible for architecting, developing, and optimizing firmware systems that integrate hardware and software for high-performance embedded applications, particularly in drones, robotics, and real-time systems.

Key Responsibilities

Architect and implement firmware to integrate Jetson Orin (or similar compute platforms) with drone flight controllers (PX4/ArduPilot).

Develop and maintain real-time control loops for flight stability, motor control, and sensor data acquisition ensuring low-latency performance.

Design and implement communication interfaces using I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

Integrate and validate sensor modules including IMU, GPS, Cameras, and LiDAR for navigation and data fusion.

Optimize power management to ensure efficient battery utilization during operations with onboard AI workloads.

Develop failsafe mechanisms, watchdogs, and firmware update procedures adhering to aerospace/defense standards.

Debug hardware-software issues using GDB, JTAG, oscilloscopes, and collaborate closely with hardware and software teams.

Document design decisions, maintain version control, perform code reviews, and follow best practices in embedded development.

Contribute technical insights during prototyping, field testing, and system refinement stages.

Essential Skills

Strong proficiency in C/C++ with a minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience.

Familiarity with Assembly language (ARM, x86, or RISC-V).

Knowledge of Python for scripting and automation.

Hands-on experience with RTOS (FreeRTOS, VxWorks, QNX, or Linux Kernel).

Expertise with ARM Cortex-M series (STM32, NXP, Nordic); knowledge of Cortex-A series is a plus.

Deep understanding of interrupt handling, preemption, and real-time constraints (<5ms latency).

Strong experience with I2C, SPI, UART, CAN bus, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth protocols.

Proficiency in debugging hardware systems using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG tools.

Experience with Git/GitHub, Keil MDK, IAR Embedded Workbench, VS Code + PlatformIO, and CI/CD workflows.

Good to Have

Experience with PX4 or ArduPilot firmware (highly valued).

Background in drone or robotics development.

Exposure to Jetson, Qualcomm Snapdragon, or similar compute modules.

Experience in low-power embedded optimization or signal processing (DSP/filter design).

Prior work in aerospace or defense domains.

Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.

Master’s degree preferred but not mandatory (4–5 years of strong experience can substitute).

Certifications in ARM Embedded Systems, Real-Time Systems, or IoT Development are an added advantage.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Kochi, Kerala: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
