Role & responsibilities

Electrical & HVAC QS 5 to 6 years

MEP Quantity Surveyor manages the financial and contractual aspects of electrical, and HVAC systems in construction projects, including cost estimation, contract administration, and budget control. Key responsibilities include preparing detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs), analysing tenders, monitoring project costs, and handling variations and claims.

Key responsibilities

  • Cost estimation and budgeting:

    • Prepare accurate cost estimates based on project drawings, specifications, and scope.
    • Develop detailed cost plans, budgets, and cash flow projections for electrical installations.
    • Prepare bills of quantities (BOQ) and tender documents.
  • Procurement and contract management:

    • Ensure contractual compliance and manage change orders and variations.
    • Monitor and control costs throughout the project, tracking expenditures against budget.
  • Project monitoring and reporting:

    • Validate installed quantities against progress claims and maintain accurate logs.
    • Identify and document variances between reported and actual quantities.
    • Provide regular financial reports and updates to project stakeholders.
  • Collaboration and support:

    • Liaise with project managers, engineers, designers, and contractors to optimize quantities and specifications.
    • Collaborate with project controls teams to ensure precision in quantity reporting.
    • Advise on cost-saving measures and risk management strategies.
  • Site work and verification:

    • Perform site visits to inspect and verify the quantities of installed electrical & HVAC materials and equipment.
    • Ensure compliance with company and site safety standards.

Key skills and qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of Electrical and HVAC systems.
  • Proficiency in quantity surveying software, CAD software like AutoCAD, and MS Excel.
  • Expertise in cost estimation, rate analysis, and BOQ preparation.
  • Familiarity with construction contract management and relevant industry standards.
  • Good negotiation, communication, and documentation skills.

Plumbing & Fire QS – 5 to 6 Years

QS responsible for managing the costs of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems on construction projects by performing quantity take-offs from drawings, preparing cost estimates and Bills of Quantities (BOQs), supporting procurement and bidding, and monitoring budgets. This role requires expertise in reading technical drawings, collaborating with other project professionals, and ensuring compliance with building codes and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cost estimation and budgeting:

    • Prepare detailed cost estimates and BOQs for plumbing works.
    • Conduct quantity take-offs from drawings to measure materials and labor.
    • Perform rate analysis for plumbing materials and labor.
  • Contract administration:

    • Assist in preparing, reviewing, and managing contracts with subcontractors.
    • Handle contract variations, claims, and amendments.
    • Negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to secure best prices.
  • Cost control and financial management:

    • Monitor project costs, budgets, and cash flow against the established budget.
    • Verify subcontractor invoices and prepare client billing.
    • Process payments to subcontractors and suppliers.
    • Maintain detailed records of all financial transactions and project costs.
  • Project coordination and reporting:

    • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve financial and contractual issues.
    • Attend project meetings and conduct site visits as needed.
    • Prepare and submit financial reports, such as key performance indicators (KPIs) and work-in-progress reports.

Key skills and qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of plumbing and piping systems, including different types of pipes, fixtures, and systems like fire suppression.
  • Proficiency in quantity surveying software, CAD software like AutoCAD, and MS Excel.
  • Expertise in cost estimation, rate analysis, and BOQ preparation.
