Position Summary

Manufacturing Engineering Manager (Power Transformers)

Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Management

• Lead and mentor the Manufacturing Engineering team, including process engineers, tooling engineers, and methods engineers.
• Allocate resources and prioritize engineering activities based on production needs and business goals.
• Drive a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

2. Process Engineering & Optimization

• Develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing processes for coil winding, core assembly, insulation systems, tank fabrication, assembly, oil processing, and testing.
• Define standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process parameters.
• Optimize cycle time, throughput, and productivity while ensuring product reliability and compliance.

3. Equipment & Tooling Management

• Specify, evaluate, and support installation of new production equipment (winding machines, core stacking systems, ovens, oil-processing systems, lifting fixtures, robotics, etc.).
• Ensure equipment capability, calibration, preventive maintenance, and operator training.
• Design and implement specialized tooling and fixtures to improve precision and safety.

4. Technical Problem Solving & Production Support

• Provide real-time engineering support to resolve production issues.
• Lead root-cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action implementation for nonconformities, defects, and test failures.
• Collaborate with Design Engineering, Quality, and Production on technical decisions.

5. Quality, Compliance & Standards

• Ensure manufacturing processes comply with customer specifications, drawings, and standards (IEEE, IEC, ANSI, CSA, UL).
• Support internal/external audits and quality investigations.
• Maintain documentation required for ISO and other certifications.

6. Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing

• Lead Lean initiatives (5S, value stream mapping, Kaizen, waste reduction).
• Implement automation, robotics, digital manufacturing tools, and advanced process controls.
• Reduce cost through material optimization, design-for-manufacturability (DFM), and process simplification.

7. Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Design Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, and Testing to ensure manufacturability and smooth execution of orders.
• Participate in design reviews to ensure new products are producible and optimized for cost and performance.
• Support project teams on delivery commitments and production planning.

8. Training & Workforce Development

• Train operators, technicians, and supervisors on processes, equipment usage, and safety.
• Build competency frameworks for critical manufacturing skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Master’s in Mechanical , Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.

• 15+ years of experience in transformer manufacturing or heavy electrical equipment.

• Minimum 3 years in a supervisory or managerial engineering role.

• Strong knowledge of transformer components, insulation systems, winding processes, and assembly methods.

• Hands-on experience with Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement tools.

• Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with large power transformer manufacturing.

• Knowledge of CAD/PLM systems (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo).

• Familiarity with SAP or equivalent ERP systems.

• Understanding of high voltage testing and failure modes.
