Job Description

Role & responsibilities

1. Material Planning & Requirement Analysis

  • Review project drawings and Bill of Materials (BOM) in coordination with the Design and Production teams.
  • Forecast raw material requirements for current and upcoming projects.
  • Prepare purchase plans based on project schedules and stock levels.

2. Supplier Sourcing & Evaluation

  • Identify and develop reliable suppliers for structural steel, plates, bolts, welding consumables, paints, etc.
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, delivery, and pricing.
  • Maintain and update an Approved Vendor List (AVL).
  • Negotiate contracts and framework agreements with suppliers and mills.

3. Procurement Process Management

  • Prepare and issue Requests for Quotation (RFQ) to multiple vendors.
  • Compare quotations, analyze costs, and prepare techno-commercial comparison sheets.
  • Issue purchase orders (PO) as per company policies and ensure order acknowledgment.
  • Follow up with suppliers for timely delivery as per schedule.

4. Quality & Documentation Control

  • Ensure all materials comply with relevant standards (ASTM, EN, IS, JIS).
  • Verify and maintain Mill Test Certificates (MTCs) and other quality documents.
  • Coordinate third-party or internal inspection for raw materials before dispatch.
  • Maintain full traceability of materials by heat number and batch number.

5. Inventory & Logistics Coordination

  • Monitor stock levels and coordinate with the stores department for material receipt and inspection.
  • Arrange transport and logistics for bulk materials and oversize loads.
  • Ensure safe and proper unloading, stacking, and storage of steel materials.

6. Cost & Budget Control

  • Monitor price trends for structural steel and related commodities.
  • Negotiate best prices while ensuring quality and timely delivery.
  • Support management in budgeting and cost-saving initiatives.

7. Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare periodic purchase reports (open POs, delivery status, price comparisons).
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, ISO standards, and safety guidelines.
  • Support audits (internal / external) with proper documentation and traceability records.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Education:

    B.E./B. Tech in Mechanical/Metallurgy/Industrial Engineering or equivalent. MBA in Materials Management / Supply Chain preferred.
  • Experience:

    1520 years of experience in procurement within the

    steel fabrication / PEB / heavy engineering

    industry.
