Manager - Scrap & Purchase

Key Responsibilities

1. Scrap Procurement & Sourcing

Procure ferrous and non-ferrous scrap (MS scrap, HMS, turning scrap, melting scrap, aluminum, copper, etc.)

Develop and manage vendor base (scrap dealers, aggregators, recyclers, imports if applicable)

Identify new sources of scrap to ensure consistent supply and competitive pricing

2. Commercial & Negotiation

Monitor daily scrap market prices, trends, and forecasts

Lead price negotiations, finalize contracts, and issue purchase orders

Ensure cost optimization without compromising quality

3. Quality & Compliance

Ensure scrap meets chemical, physical, and size specifications

Coordinate with QA / Metallurgy / Production teams for inspection and acceptance

Ensure compliance with:

Pollution Control norms

GST, E-way bill, and statutory documentation

Weights & Measures regulations

4. Vendor Management

Evaluate vendor performance (price, quality, delivery, compliance)

Conduct vendor audits and development programs

Resolve disputes related to shortages, rejections, and claims

5. Logistics & Inventory Coordination

Coordinate with logistics and stores for timely inward movement

Monitor inventory levels to avoid shortages or excess stock

Plan procurement aligned with production schedules

6. MIS & Reporting

Prepare and present:

Daily / weekly / monthly scrap procurement MIS

Cost variance and savings reports

Vendor-wise procurement analysis

Maintain accurate records in ERP/SAP

7. Risk & Safety Management

Mitigate risks related to:

Price volatility

Supply disruption

Quality failures

Ensure safe handling and storage of scrap material

Qualification & Experience

Education: BE / B.Tech (Mechanical / Metallurgy) or Diploma (mechanical/metallurgy)

Experience:

12-15 years in scrap procurement (Steel / Foundry / Manufacturing)

Proven experience handling large volumes and high-value purchases
