1. Job Purpose

To effectively plan and execute material procurement with a focus on cost optimization, timely delivery, and , ensuring alignment with customer expectations and the organization's operational goals. The role plays a critical part in material cost control, vendor management, store Management , inventory management and overall supply chain efficiency across the company.

2. Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

A. Material Costing & Pricing

  • Determine process and raw material (RM) costs.
  • Drive cost-saving and cost-reduction initiatives (e.g., VA/VE, scrap/waste reduction).
  • Lead procurement negotiations with vendors to ensure competitive pricing.

B. Raw Material Planning & Procurement

  • Schedule and order raw materials as per vendor Share of Business (SOB) and SOP compliance.
  • Coordinate with plant teams for periodic reviews and align procurement with production needs.

C. Vendor Development & Management

  • Implement vendor consolidation and improvement programs using vendor rating systems.
  • Knowledge about Project Management.
  • Resolve quality issues and assess supplier capacity.
  • Support vendors in improving quality, cost efficiency, delivery performance, and 5S implementation.
  • Price settlement with suppliers and ensure the supplementary and debit notes calculation as per price settlement in case of bad-debts with vendors and customers.
  • Variance of standard cost vs actual cost of product.

D. Costing & Procurement for New Product Development

  • Identify suitable suppliers and evaluate make vs. buy decisions with engineering teams.
  • Share technical specs, drawings, and tentative POs for NPD requirements.
  • Manage cost estimation and pricing for new components.
  • Ensure quality monitoring of outsourced materials and provide feedback to suppliers.
  • Finalize BOM and costing once the process stabilizes for mass production.

E. Department Performance & Team Management

  • Lead and manage the Commercial team at corporate and plant levels.
  • Conduct fortnightly/monthly reviews on key metrics:
  • Vendor performance (quality, delivery, cost)
  • Production losses/downtime due to material unavailability
  • Cost-saving initiatives
  • Present monthly performance reviews to MD/JMD based on key parameters.

3. Desired Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial preferred) or equivalent.
  • Strong techno-commercial acumen with hands-on experience in costing and supplier negotiations.
  • Proven experience in material planning, vendor development, and cost optimization.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and leadership skills.
  • Prior experience in the automotive or manufacturing sector is highly preferred.
