Job Description

Position: Manager- Operations Department: Managed Investment Data (MID)

    • Responsible for managing UK shift of 80 plus team members and 5 to 7 Team Leads including initiating recruiting/following up with HR, interviewing and selecting candidates for functional BAU processes and various other strategic initiatives and projects in the team.
    • Ensures the team is operating under the most efficient manner (optimum utilization of resources & capacity) to cater to the 24*5 global operating model.
    • Identifies and develops talent on the team; focus on having the relevant competencies and skilled developed for new hires in the team.
    • Plans and executes cross training to support critical and short turnaround processes so that client deliverables and SLAs are met.
    • Ensures the team has all the necessary resources and tools needed to perform and meet their goals.
    • Acts as the main point of contact for all team members to raise queries and concerns.
    • Monitors metrics dashboards and ensures all Team Leads are on track with the defined goals/OKRs.
    • Tracks, measures, and reports on agreed daily, monthly, and quarterly metrics to all stakeholders.
    • Provides coaching, mentorship, and training to Team Leads as appropriate and according to the specific needs of the individuals role and the process.
    • Identifies areas for improvement and scope of automation across all processes and proactively takes steps to encourage and motivate idea generation from teams.
    • Define team strategy and set tactical OKRs based on business goals. Drive successful execution and delivery.
    • Conduct regular team check-ins, performance reviews, and career development planning to build a high-performing team.
    • Foster strong collaboration with data collection, content design, and tech teams to drive operational improvements.
    • Ensure optimal utilization of resources and tools for maximum efficiency and goal achievement.
    • Champion best practice sharing and continuous learning; help team members build deep subject matter expertise.
    • Oversee and manage multiple projects simultaneously, including research, implementation, and communication of new data or methodologies.
    • Stay current with industry regulations and client needs; proactively recommend enhancements based on research and regulatory review.
    • Represent Morningstar as a subject matter expert on managed investment data internally and externally.
    • Collaborate with local and regional teams to align global standards with regional business requirements.
    • Act as a bridge between Research, Data, Technology, and Product teams to ensure seamless execution of complex initiatives.
    • Support and manage technical data requests: o Translate business needs for technology partners.
    • Guide product teams on appropriate data access and usage.
    • Define and validate functional requirements with tech stakeholders.

Qualifications & Requirements

    • 12+ years of experience in the investment data industry, with at least 3 years in a people management role.
    • Deep expertise in investment data and data systems, with a strong understanding of industry standards and practices.
    • Strategic thinker with strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
    • Quick learner, adaptable in fast-paced and evolving environments.
    • Proven ability to build partnerships and collaborate across teams and geographies.
    • Track record of developing talent and building high-performing teams.
    • Experience with multiple data domains (e.g., portfolio data, ESG data) is preferred.
    • Bachelor’s degree and credentials such as CFA is a must.
    • Familiarity with third-party data vendors and asset management workflows.
    • Experience with process improvement methodologies such as LEAN, Six Sigma, or Agile is a plus.
    • Prior experience using Morningstar’s internal tools (e.g., DataManager, XOI, RDB, TSDB) is a plus.
    • Flexible to work in shifts.
