Machine Shop Production Supervisor

Role & responsibilities

• Production and operations management:

• Oversee the end-to-end production process to ensure machines run efficiently and meet quality and production targets.
• Coordinate production schedules and manage workflow to meet deadlines.
• Monitor daily production output against the shift plan.

• Staff and resource management:

• Manage manpower, assigning tasks and ensuring effective team deployment.
• Motivate and develop the team, identifying skill gaps and facilitating training.
• Manage consumables, tools, and other resources required for daily production.

• Quality and safety:

• Ensure the final product meets quality standards and specifications.
• Implement and enforce health and safety regulations, conduct safety checks, and ensure proper equipment usage.
• Investigate and correct any quality rejections and safety incidents.

• Machinery and maintenance:

• Ensure all machinery is well-maintained and operating efficiently.
• Monitor equipment health and coordinate maintenance to prevent breakdowns.

• Collaboration and communication:

• Liaise with other departments (e.g., engineering, maintenance, quality assurance) to resolve issues and ensure smooth operations.
• Communicate company goals and performance metrics to the team.
• Conduct daily meetings to review performance and plan for the upcoming day.

• Process improvement:

• Identify areas for improvement in productivity, quality, and safety.
• Suggest and implement process improvements.

Preferred candidate profile

Technical skills and experience

• Machining expertise:

  Deep understanding of machining processes including CNC,VMC and programming.

• Quality control:

  Proficiency in using precision inspection tools and ensuring parts meet quality and specification requirements.

• Troubleshooting:

  Ability to identify and perform minor machine repairs or coordinate with vendors for larger issues.

• Performance management:

  Skill in setting targets, monitoring performance, and driving results.

• Communication:

  Strong communication skills to work effectively with team members and management.

• Problem-solving:

  Ability to quickly identify and resolve issues that arise on the shop floor.

• Planning:

  Experience in production planning and managing multiple priorities.

Education and other qualifications

• Education:

  preferred for Mechanical engineering

• Computer literacy:

  Proficiency with software like Microsoft Excel, Word, and ERP systems is necessary.

• Safety focus:

  A strong commitment to enforcing safety regulations and maintaining a safe work environment.

• Continuous improvement:

  Knowledge of methodologies like Lean manufacturing and experience with quality improvement initiatives are a plus.
