Role / Position Overview
The Logistics / Supply Chain Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end management of supply chain and logistics operations for the PET and Can filling plant. The role involves optimizing material flow, ensuring on-time deliveries, managing inventory, and streamlining logistics to achieve operational excellence. The incumbent will lead the planning, procurement coordination, warehousing, and outbound logistics functionsbalancing cost, quality, and customer satisfaction while aligning with global beverage industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Supply Chain Strategy & Planning
- Develop and execute a comprehensive supply chain strategy covering inbound materials, production planning, warehousing, and distribution.
- Collaborate with production, procurement, and sales teams to align demand forecasts and inventory planning.
- Ensure optimal balance between production efficiency, inventory levels, and customer delivery timelines.
- Implement S&OP (Sales and Operations Planning) processes to synchronize business functions.
Logistics & Distribution Management
- Manage inbound and outbound logisticsincluding transportation planning, vendor coordination, and dispatch management.
- Optimize freight costs through route rationalization, carrier performance management, and load consolidation.
- Ensure timely delivery of finished goods to customers, including large beverage clients and distributors.
- Oversee vehicle scheduling, transit documentation, and customs compliance (if exports involved).
- Implement and monitor logistics KPIs for cost, on-time delivery, and service quality.
Inventory & Warehouse Management
- Lead end-to-end warehouse operations, including material receipt, storage, issuance, and dispatch.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels for raw materials, packaging materials, and finished goods.
- Implement FIFO / FEFO systems and warehouse automation (barcode, RFID).
- Monitor inventory accuracy through cycle counts and annual physical verifications.
- Ensure compliance with hygiene, safety, and housekeeping standards in storage areas.
Procurement Coordination & Material Availability
- Work closely with the procurement team to ensure timely supply of packaging materials, spares, and consumables.
- Track supplier performance on lead time, delivery accuracy, and quality.
- Manage material scheduling for production lines and support JIT (Just-in-Time) manufacturing.
Cost Optimization & Process Improvement
- Drive cost savings initiatives across logistics and inventory management.
- Analyze supply chain performance and identify areas for process automation and digitalization.
- Introduce Lean principles and continuous improvement projects to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
- Monitor KPIs including logistics cost as % of sales, inventory turnover, and order fulfilment rate.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements for logistics, warehousing, and transportation.
- Maintain safety standards in line with EHS and sustainability goals.
- Develop and execute contingency plans for supply disruptions, transport strikes, or emergencies.
People Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, mentor, and develop the logistics and warehouse teams for performance and career growth.
- Foster collaboration across production, procurement, and sales to ensure seamless supply chain operations.
- Build strong relationships with 3PL partners, transporters, and distribution agencies.
Candidate Profile
- Education: Graduate / PG / B. Tech Food or MBA in Supply Chain Management, Operations, or Logistics.
- Experience: Minimum 1215 years in supply chain or logistics management in beverage, FMCG, or process industries.
- Soft Skills: Strategic thinking, analytical ability, cross-functional leadership, and vendor negotiation.
- Preferred Background: Experience in high-volume beverage packaging, bottling, or can filling environments.
Technical Competencies:
Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in:
- Supply Chain Planning (S&OP / IBP frameworks)
- Logistics Network Design & Optimization
- Inventory Management and Controls (FIFO / FEFO / Safety Stock)
- Warehouse Automation Tools: Barcode, RFID, WMS
- ERP systems: SAP MM/WM, TMS (Transport Management System) modules, or equivalent
- Lean Logistics & Continuous Improvement (Kaizen, VSM)
- Cost-to-Serve Analysis & Freight Optimization
- Data-driven decision making using KPIs & dashboards
- Cold chain logistics (preferred for beverage sector) & Vendor & 3PL Performance Management
