• This role focuses on the planning, installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimisation of Linux-based systems within a laboratory environment. The ideal candidate should have a strong technical foundation in Linux systems and a proven ability to establish and manage lab setups for testing, development, and research purposes.

• Experience with Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, CentOS, or Red Hat.
• Knowledge of scripting languages like Bash, Python, or Perl.

• Prior experience in setting up and managing labs is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Lab Design and Setup

• Plan and design Linux-based lab environments that cater to specific project or organisational needs.
• Ensure proper hardware and software integration to support the lab's operations.
• Select and install suitable Linux distributions based on use-case requirements (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS, Red Hat).

System Configuration and Maintenance

• Configure Linux servers, workstations, and network components to optimise performance and security.
• Perform routine maintenance, including software updates, patch management, and troubleshooting.
• Implement robust backup and disaster recovery processes to ensure data integrity.

Automation and Scripting

• Develop and deploy scripts for automation of key lab functionalities, such as installation, monitoring, and testing.
• Utilise tools like Bash, Python, or Perl to streamline operations and reduce manual workloads.

Networking and Connectivity

• Establish secure and efficient networking within the lab, including wired and wireless configurations.
• Monitor network traffic and ensure low latency for real-time testing and development.

Testing and Quality Assurance

• Collaborate with research and development teams to test new systems, applications, or prototypes.
• Document performance metrics and troubleshoot system errors to enhance overall reliability.

Documentation and Reporting

• Create comprehensive documentation for setup processes, configurations, and procedures.
• Provide regular reports on lab performance, utilisation, and future requirements.
