Job Overview:

As a Lead Engineer – Technical Publications at Collins Aerospace, you will play a critical role in developing and managing high-quality technical documentation in compliance with ATA and S1000D standards. You will collaborate closely with authors, illustrators, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure accurate and clear publications that support aircraft component maintenance and operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Create, revise, and review technical publications and illustrations, including:

  • Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs)

  • Component Maintenance Procedures (CMPs)

  • Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (AMMs)

  • Service Bulletins (SBs)

  • Service Information Letters (SILs)

  • Test Files (T-Files)

  • Component Data Files (CDFs)

• Collaborate with product design and manufacturing teams to accurately capture maintenance and repair requirements for inclusion in manuals.

• Develop and improve procedures to ensure all documentation complies with ATA, iSpec 2200, and S1000D standards.

• Manage and track documentation through PLM systems such as Teamcenter and Enovia.

• Apply comprehensive knowledge of aerospace standards to meet evolving customer and regulatory requirements.

• Ensure adherence to project timelines, documentation quality, and contribute to cost-saving and productivity initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics or Aerospace Engineering

• 4 to 6 years of relevant experience in Aerospace Technical Publications

• Proficiency in authoring tools such as:

  • Adobe FrameMaker

  • Arbortext Editor

  • S1000D applications

  • Microsoft Office tools

• Strong working knowledge of:

  • ASD-STE100 (Simplified Technical English)

  • ATA100, iSpec 2200, S1000D

• Hands-on experience with illustration tools like:

  • IsoDraw

  • 3DVIA Composer

  • CATIA (preferred)

• Solid understanding of electronics engineering principles

• Familiarity with technical standards and procedures to resolve product-related issues

• Strong communication and editorial skills with a high level of attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Air Data Systems, Aircraft & Engine Sensors, and Fire Protection Systems

• Skilled in writing:

  • Repair Procedures

  • Detailed / Illustrated Parts Lists

  • Assembly / Disassembly Procedures for Avionics Components

• Knowledge of:

  • Aerospace product compliance, qualification, and certification processes

  • Agile, Scrum, or SAFe methodologies in technical documentation
