Lead Engineer: Steam Turbine (Owners Engineer Role)

Job Purpose

To act as the technical authority for all steam turbine-related engineering activities from an Owners Engineer perspective. The role involves reviewing, validating, and ensuring that the EPC contractor’s steam turbine design, engineering, and documentation meet contractual requirements, project specifications, applicable codes, and best engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and validate steam turbine design documents, GA drawings, datasheets, and technical specifications submitted by EPC contractor.
• Ensure that the steam turbine meets performance guarantees including heat rate, efficiency, output, and reliability.
• Evaluate steam path design, blade path, and sealing arrangements in accordance with best practices and OEM recommendations.
• Review critical component design such as rotor, casing, diaphragms, bearings, and shaft alignment methodology.
• Assess thermodynamic cycle analysis provided by EPC and ensure turbine integration with boiler and BOP systems.
• Participate in design reviews (PDR, CDR) and technical clarification meetings with EPC and OEMs.
• Ensure adequacy of steam turbine auxiliaries such as lube oil system, turning gear, jacking oil, vacuum system, and drainage system.
• Monitor manufacturing quality plans, FATs, inspection reports, and support vendor audits if required.
• Support site team during erection, commissioning, and performance testing phases by providing technical expertise.
• Ensure all deliverables are in compliance with applicable international standards (API, ASME, IEC) and Indian regulations (IBR, CEA).
• Provide inputs for design improvements and ensure constructability, maintainability, and safety considerations are addressed.

Required Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 12–18 years of relevant experience in steam turbine engineering, preferably in ultra-supercritical thermal power plant projects.
• Experience in OEM design review or working with Owner’s Engineer/PMC organizations is essential.

Preferred Skills & Knowledge

• Strong understanding of axial-flow steam turbine design and performance analysis.
• Hands-on experience with steam turbine auxiliaries and protection systems.
• Working knowledge of thermodynamic modeling tools and interpretation of cycle heat balance diagrams.
• Familiarity with OEMs such as Siemens, GE, Doosan, BHEL, Mitsubishi, etc.
