About the role

As EHS Site Lead Manager, you will be responsible for leading Environment, Health and Safety efforts at our Valia site. This includes developing and implementing EHS systems and processes, ensuring statutory compliance, and promoting a robust safety culture across all functions. You will work closely with Production, Projects, R&D, Supply Chain and external stakeholders to ensure safe operations and legal compliance, while driving continuous improvement across KPIs.

This role also involves leading emergency response preparedness, overseeing hazardous materials handling, process safety, environmental systems like ETP/STP/ZLD, and ensuring audit readiness for statutory and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. EHS Systems & Compliance

- Design and implement EHS systems and procedures across the site

- Ensure 100% statutory and regulatory compliance (PCB, Factory Act, MOEF, etc.)

- Liaise with local, state and central regulatory bodies for approvals and inspections

- Maintain audit readiness for statutory and customer audits

- Coordinate internal audits and monitor corrective action implementation

2. Process & Operational Safety

- Lead HIRA, QRA, HAZOP, JSA, PSSR and related safety assessments

- Monitor PPE standards, work permit systems, and incident reporting protocols

- Conduct incident investigations and root cause analysis (RCA)

- Define and review emergency response plans regularly

- Lead fire safety inspections, drills, and training

3. Environmental Compliance

- Ensure effective functioning of ETP/STP/ZLD (RO, MEE, MVR, ATFD) systems

- Monitor compliance with air, water and hazardous waste guidelines

- Maintain approvals for Factory Layout, EC, CTE/CTO, Fire NOC, PWM, etc.

- Track and improve KPIs around waste, water, and energy usage

4. Training & Culture Building

- Identify EHS training needs and conduct awareness programs for employees and contractors

- Promote a behaviour-based safety culture through campaigns and safety days

- Conduct onboarding training for new joiners and ongoing safety refreshers

5. Leadership & Governance

- Build and lead a competent EHS team at the site

- Drive safety governance forums such as Safety Committee Meetings, Monthly Reviews, etc.

- Foster cross-functional collaboration on EHS compliance and improvement initiatives

- Conduct regular stakeholder alignment with Operations, Projects, Dispatch, Transport and Marketing

6. Continuous Improvement

- Introduce EHS best practices, tools, and technologies to enhance operational safety

- Track and improve performance on EHS KPIs using digital dashboards and reporting tools

- Recommend and implement cost-effective improvements to processes and systems

Who are we looking for?

Education

  • BE/B.Tech/ME/M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Fire & Safety, Industrial Safety Engineering, or Environmental Engineering
  • OR MSc in Organic Chemistry with ADIS/PDIS

Experience

  • Minimum 1215 years of experience in EHS, preferably in Chemicals, Petrochemicals, Pharmaceuticals (API), Fertilizers, or Agrochemicals
  • Experience in leading EHS teams and managing cross-functional projects
