Job Description

The Active Directory L1 Engineer will be responsible for providing first-level support, monitoring, and basic administration of Active Directory services. This role involves handling user account management, password resets, group policies, security permissions, and troubleshooting basic Active Directory-related issues. The L1 engineer will escalate complex issues to L2/L3 teams as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • User & Group Management

  • Create, modify, and disable Active Directory user accounts.
  • Manage group memberships, distribution lists, and organizational units (OUs).
  • Handle password resets and account unlocks.
  • Access & Security

  • Assign and modify file/folder permissions based on user requests.
  • Ensure compliance with access control policies.
  • Monitor failed login attempts and escalate security-related incidents.
  • Monitoring & Troubleshooting

  • Monitor AD health and replication status using basic tools.
  • Troubleshoot login and authentication issues.
  • Escalate critical or recurring issues to L2/L3 support.
  • Support & Documentation

  • Respond to tickets within SLA for AD-related requests/issues.
  • Maintain documentation of procedures and troubleshooting steps.
  • Assist in onboarding/offboarding processes for employees.
  • Coordination

  • Work with IT Helpdesk for end-user support.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers for patching, upgrades, and policy changes.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Basic understanding of

    Active Directory architecture

    (domains, forests, OUs, GPOs).
  • Knowledge of

    Windows Server administration (2012/2016/2019/2022)

    basics.
  • Familiarity with

    user provisioning and access management

    processes.
  • Basic understanding of

    DNS, DHCP, and authentication protocols (Kerberos/NTLM)

    .
  • Hands-on experience with

    Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC)

    console.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.


Educational & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 0–2 years of experience in IT support (Active Directory/Windows environment preferred).
  • Microsoft certifications (e.g.,

    MTA, MCSA, or Azure AD basics

    ) are a plus
