IS SME - SAP ABAP Development

Your role and responsibilities (Mandatory)

A highly skilled and experienced Development Subject Matter Expert (Dev SME) responsible for leading technical design, development, and delivery of custom solutions across enterprise applications. The Dev SME acts as a key technical authority, providing architectural direction, ensuring adherence to coding standards, and guiding development teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing applications.

With deep expertise in application development (e.g., SAP ABAP, BTP, OData, Java, or other platforms), the Dev SME collaborates closely with functional teams, solution architects, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into robust technical solutions. The role involves hands-on development, code reviews, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and mentoring junior developers.

The Dev SME plays a critical role in project delivery, innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring all custom developments align with enterprise architecture, security, and compliance standards.

This Role is directly reporting to : Dev Sol Architect.This role is contributing to the Information Systems.You will be mainly accountable for:

• Lead the development of custom solutions, ensuring code is efficient, modular, and aligned with enterprise standards.
• Translate complex functional requirements into robust technical solutions with high attention to detail and scalability.
• Write, test, and optimize code across platforms (e.g., SAP ABAP, Fiori/UI5, BTP, Java/.NET) with a focus on performance and reliability.
• Perform code reviews and enforce coding guidelines and best practices to maintain high-quality deliverables.
• Develop and support interfaces between systems using APIs, OData, SAP PI/PO, CPI, or other integration technologies.
• Analyze and resolve technical issues during development, testing, and production, including root cause analysis and preventive actions.
• Prepare and maintain technical design documents, code documentation, and system integration specifications
• Work closely with functional consultants, solution architects, testers, and business stakeholders to align on design and delivery.
• Manage code transport, cutover planning, and support hypercare post go-live to ensure system stability.
• Identify opportunities to refactor legacy code, automate repetitive tasks, and adopt emerging technologies like cloud services, RAP/CAP, etc.

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Analyze business and functional requirements to create scalable, maintainable technical designs and development strategies
• Drive end-to-end custom development including design, coding, testing, deployment, and post-go-live support.
• Deliver high-quality, optimized code in ABAP, SAP BTP, JavaScript, Node.js, or other enterprise platforms.
• Conduct peer code reviews and enforce development best practices.
• Design and implement APIs, middleware integrations (e.g., SAP CPI), and data exchange between systems.
• Lead technical activities during cutover planning, transport management, and go-live execution.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior developers and cross-functional team members.
• Proactively identify opportunities to enhance development practices, tools, and processes.
• Maintain accurate documentation for custom developments, technical specifications, and solution designs.
• Provide expert support for incident resolution, defect analysis, and critical development failures.

• 8+ years Deep technical expertise, End-to-end project exposure, complex custom developments, cross-functional collaboration
• Bachelors or masters in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent technical field
• 8+ years (preferred, to understand ABB IS landscape and governance processes)
• Minimum 35 years SAP ABAP roles
• SAP Certified Development Associate ABAP with SAP NetWeaver / S/4HANA, SAP Certified Development Specialist ABAP for SAP HANA
• SAP Certified Technology Specialist SAP HANA Installation & Administration
• Drives service strategy, compliance posture, risk mitigation, and digital enablement in the SAP landscape
• SAP ABAP / BTP.
• 150 K users, as GRC Access control consists of 150K users
• BA ERP Managers/Application managers, IS Service owners.
• High ensures audit readiness, compliance with regulatory requirements, access risk mitigation, and secure SAP operations
• Complex Requirement Translation, Managing Cross-Platform & Legacy Integrations, Performance Optimization Under Load, Code Quality, Governance & Compliance, Integration & Data Consistency. Stakeholder Expectation Management.
• Strategic Role in Solution Architecture, Ownership of Custom Development Standards, Contribution to Innovation and Continuous Improvement, Involvement in Project Planning and Estimation, Key Role in Audits & Compliance, Multi-Technology Exposure.
