What You Will Do

As an Interoperability Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and optimization of integrations across major EHR platforms, including Epic, eClinicalWorks, Athena, Nextgen, Cerner, and many others. You will serve as a technical authority on HL7 and FHIR, guiding the architecture, implementation, and enhancement of interoperability solutions across the company. You will play a pivotal role in connecting external partners, enhancing internal automation systems, and ensuring that data flows securely and accurately at scale. Your responsibilities include:

• Architecting and maintaining complex integration pipelines using HL7, FHIR, and custom APIs
• Leading interoperability projects with new and existing EHR partners from discovery to deployment
• Designing transformation logic, routing patterns, and validation rules for clinical and financial data
• Troubleshooting, resolving, and preventing message-level issues involving acknowledgements, segments, mappings, and transport protocols
• Optimizing reliability, throughput, and observability for production-grade integrations
• Guiding strategy for interoperability standards adoption, including FHIR R4, SMART integration patterns, and emerging regulatory requirements
• Working closely with product, automation engineering, and data teams to ensure seamless data exchange
• Documenting workflows, partner specifications, security models, and integration architecture

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking an experienced interoperability specialist with a deep technical background and a strong understanding of healthcare workflows. You should have:

• Extensive knowledge of HL7, including segment structure, message triggers, and common integration patterns
• Significant experience building and maintaining FHIR-based APIs and working with FHIR resources at scale
• Direct experience integrating with several major EHRs such as Epic, eClinicalWorks, Athena, Nextgen, Cerner, Allscripts, Meditech, or Greenway
• Strong Python development skills for automation, parsing, and data transformation
• Experience leading interoperability projects and coordinating with EHR vendors and partner engineering teams
• A strong understanding of clinical, financial, and administrative workflows and how they map to HL7 and FHIR
• Familiarity with security, compliance, and regulatory requirements, including HIPAA and modern interoperability rules
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to partner with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

• Knowledge of CDA, X12, or other healthcare data formats
• Background in workflow automation or RPA
• Experience implementing large-scale or high-availability integration architectures
