Senior Backend Developer Healthcare EDI (.NET / Azure)

Role Overview

Senior Backend Developer with deep Healthcare EDI expertise

You will work from predefined architectural specifications and collaborate closely with architects, DevOps, and product stakeholders to deliver production-grade healthcare integrations at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Eligibility & EDI Workflow Development

  • Design and implement

    270 eligibility request generation

    and

    271 response processing

    workflows using Azure Functions
  • Handle

    real-time and batch eligibility verification

    scenarios
  • Implement robust

    EDI validation

    , payer-specific logic, and benefit coordination rules
  • Debug and resolve EDI transaction failures using

    999 and TA1 acknowledgments

Azure Backend Engineering

  • Build and maintain

    Azure Functions

    (HTTP triggers, timer triggers, Durable Functions for orchestration)
  • Develop

    Azure Service Bus

    –based asynchronous processing pipelines, including:
    • Queues and topics
    • Retry logic
    • Dead-letter queue handling
  • Design and optimize

    Azure SQL Database

    schemas, queries, and stored procedures
  • Use

    Azure Storage

    (Blob and Table) for file staging, auditing, and logging

Integration & API Development

  • Integrate with

    Stedi Healthcare API

    for JSON X12 transformations
  • Implement secure

    RESTful API integrations

    , including authentication, rate limiting, and error handling
  • Orchestrate

    SFTP-based file transfers

    using Files.com, including polling, integrity checks, and secure transfer workflows
  • Build webhook-driven and event-based async processing patterns

Security & Compliance

  • Implement HIPAA-compliant

    PHI handling

    practices:
    • Encryption at rest and in transit
    • Access controls and managed identities
    • Audit logging and monitoring
  • Apply a

    security-first mindset

    to all healthcare data workflows

Quality, Collaboration & Delivery

  • Write comprehensive

    unit tests and integration tests

  • Participate in

    code reviews

    , technical documentation, and design discussions
  • Collaborate with

    architecture and DevOps teams

    on CI/CD and deployment strategies
  • Deliver clean, maintainable, and well-instrumented production code

Required Skills & Qualifications

Healthcare EDI (Mandatory)

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with X12 EDI 270/271 transactions

  • Strong understanding of:
    • Eligibility request/response patterns
    • Payer-specific rules and nuances
    • Benefit coordination
  • Experience handling:
    • AAA segments and rejection codes
    • EDI error handling and retries
  • Familiarity with

    834 enrollment files

    and member demographic correlation

Azure Development (Mandatory)

  • 5+ years

    of professional software development experience
  • 2+ years

    building production systems on Azure using:
    • Azure Functions
    • Azure Service Bus
    • Azure SQL Database
    • Azure Storage
  • Experience with:
    • Azure Key Vault
    • Managed Identities
    • Application Insights & Azure Monitor

Programming Languages

  • C# (.NET 8+)

    – primary language
  • T-SQL

    – complex queries, stored procedures, performance tuning
  • Python

    (desirable) – data transformation and file parsing
  • PowerShell / Bash

    – automation and deployment scripting

Integration & Architecture

  • RESTful API integration best practices
  • JSON schema validation and transformation
