Senior Backend Developer Healthcare EDI (.NET / Azure) Location Remote / Hybrid (as applicable) Experience Level Senior (7–10 years total experience) Role Overview We are seeking a Senior Backend Developer with deep Healthcare EDI expertise to lead the end-to-end development of eligibility verification workflows within a HIPAA-compliant cloud environment. This role is highly hands-on and focused on building scalable, fault-tolerant backend services using Microsoft Azure PaaS and .NET 8 , integrating with Stedi’s Healthcare API and Files.com SFTP to process X12 270/271 eligibility transactions for both real-time and batch use cases JD AAIC Dot Net Sr. backend Dev. You will work from predefined architectural specifications and collaborate closely with architects, DevOps, and product stakeholders to deliver production-grade healthcare integrations at scale. Key Responsibilities Eligibility & EDI Workflow Development Design and implement 270 eligibility request generation and 271 response processing workflows using Azure Functions Handle real-time and batch eligibility verification scenarios Implement robust EDI validation , payer-specific logic, and benefit coordination rules Debug and resolve EDI transaction failures using 999 and TA1 acknowledgments Azure Backend Engineering Build and maintain Azure Functions (HTTP triggers, timer triggers, Durable Functions for orchestration) Develop Azure Service Bus –based asynchronous processing pipelines, including: Queues and topics Retry logic Dead-letter queue handling Design and optimize Azure SQL Database schemas, queries, and stored procedures Use Azure Storage (Blob and Table) for file staging, auditing, and logging Integration & API Development Integrate with Stedi Healthcare API for JSON X12 transformations Implement secure RESTful API integrations , including authentication, rate limiting, and error handling Orchestrate SFTP-based file transfers using Files.com, including polling, integrity checks, and secure transfer workflows Build webhook-driven and event-based async processing patterns Security & Compliance Implement HIPAA-compliant PHI handling practices: Encryption at rest and in transit Access controls and managed identities Audit logging and monitoring Apply a security-first mindset to all healthcare data workflows Quality, Collaboration & Delivery Write comprehensive unit tests and integration tests Participate in code reviews , technical documentation, and design discussions Collaborate with architecture and DevOps teams on CI/CD and deployment strategies Deliver clean, maintainable, and well-instrumented production code Required Skills & Qualifications Healthcare EDI (Mandatory) 3+ years of hands-on experience with X12 EDI 270/271 transactions Strong understanding of: Eligibility request/response patterns Payer-specific rules and nuances Benefit coordination Experience handling: AAA segments and rejection codes EDI error handling and retries Familiarity with 834 enrollment files and member demographic correlation Azure Development (Mandatory) 5+ years of professional software development experience 2+ years building production systems on Azure using: Azure Functions Azure Service Bus Azure SQL Database Azure Storage Experience with: Azure Key Vault Managed Identities Application Insights & Azure Monitor Programming Languages C# (.NET 8+) – primary language T-SQL – complex queries, stored procedures, performance tuning Python (desirable) – data transformation and file parsing PowerShell / Bash – automation and deployment scripting Integration & Architecture RESTful API integration best practices JSON schema validation and transformation Asynchronous and event-driven backend design Desired / Nice-to-Have Skills Infrastructure as Code using Bicep or ARM templates CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions Redis Cache for rate limiting or session management Prior experience with Stedi Healthcare API or other EDI clearinghouse platforms Test-driven development using xUnit, NUnit, Moq What Makes You a Strong Fit Ability to contribute to production code within 2 weeks of onboarding Proven experience debugging real-world EDI eligibility failures Strong understanding of member ID correlation challenges across payers and TPAs Experience building high-throughput async systems processing 10,000+ transactions per day Writes clean, maintainable, well-logged, and resilient backend code Thrives in fast-paced environments with clear architecture and autonomous execution Experience Requirements 7–10 years total software development experience Minimum 3 years in healthcare EDI or clearinghouse operations Minimum 2 years delivering Azure PaaS–based production systems Demonstrated success building HIPAA-compliant healthcare platforms Technical Environment Cloud Platform: Microsoft Azure (Functions, Service Bus, SQL Database, Container Apps) Primary Language: C# (.NET 8) EDI Partner: Stedi Healthcare API File Exchange: Files.com SFTP (static IP requirements) Monitoring: Application Insights, Azure Monitor Version Control: Git (Azure DevOps or GitHub)
