Position Overview:
skilled InDesign Compositor
You’ll play a key role in building reusable templates, defining XML-based structures, and developing component libraries that drive efficient and scalable PDF generation from structured content.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain
reusable InDesign templates
and content modules
that align with print and instructional design standards. - Collaborate with LMS, CMS, and engineering teams to define
metadata structures
and technical requirements for automated print workflows. - Lead
typesetting and composition
processes for books, journals, and instructional materials using Adobe InDesign and InCopy. - Structure and tag content using
XML
and manage InDesign-to-XML / XML-to-InDesign transformations. - Build and expand
component libraries
that integrate with publishing platforms (e.g., Bento, Habitat, or similar). - Export and QA print-ready PDFs, ensuring typographic consistency, accuracy, and content hierarchy.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to drive
print automation initiatives
and streamline content-to-print pipelines.
Skills & Expertise:
- Advanced proficiency in
Adobe InDesign
and InCopy
. - Strong command of
XML
, HTML
, and MathType/InMath
workflows. - Deep understanding of
publishing standards
, typesetting
, and print composition
. - Experience with
automated PDF generation
and component-based content structuring
. - Familiarity with publishing systems like
Bento
, Habitat
, or equivalent. - Solid grasp of
JSON/XML transformations
for structured print outputs. - Strong QA eye for layout, formatting, and pagination accuracy.
Qualifications:
3–10 years
of experience in educational publishing, digital/print production, or content conversion environments.- Proven experience developing
content or component libraries
in LMS or CMS platforms. - Demonstrated ability to collaborate in
agile, cross-functional teams
(engineering, design, content). - Bachelor’s degree in Publishing, Graphic Design, Communication, or related field preferred.
