Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
1. Import Operations Management:
- Manage all aspects of the import process including documentation, shipping schedules, and customs clearance.
- Coordinate with international suppliers to ensure timely and accurate shipments.
- Oversee the logistics chain from point of origin to final destination, optimizing freight costs and transit times.
- Ensure the correct classification of goods and adherence to applicable trade agreements and duty regulations.
2. Customs and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant customs laws, trade policies, and regulations.
- Handle customs clearance processes, including HS code classification, duties, tariffs, and import permits.
- Stay updated on changes in import/export regulations, duties, and sanctions, and advise the company accordingly.
3. Vendor and Supplier Management:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with international suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers.
- Negotiate favorable shipping terms, costs, and lead times with vendors and logistics providers.
- Monitor vendor performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
4. Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare, review, and manage import documentation such as bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
- Ensure accurate and timely filing of all import documentation.
- Generate regular reports on import activities, including cost analysis, shipment status, and performance metrics.
5. Inventory and Cost Control:
- Work closely with the inventory and procurement teams to ensure adequate stock levels and reduce lead times.
- Monitor and control import-related costs, including duties, taxes, and freight charges.
- Develop strategies to minimize costs while ensuring timely delivery of goods.
6. Problem-Solving and Risk Management:
- Address and resolve issues related to delays, damages, or discrepancies in import shipments.
- Proactively identify risks in the supply chain and develop contingency plans to mitigate them.
- Handle disputes with customs authorities or vendors when necessary.
