General Manager - Contract Manufacturing

Role Overview

The General Manager - Contract Manufacturing will lead the strategic planning and execution of all outsourced production activities. This pivotal role ensures that external manufacturing partners meet the company's quality standards, production schedules, and financial objectives. The GM will manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the third-party manufacturing network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vendor Management:

    Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with contract manufacturers (CMs) and suppliers.
  • Contract Negotiation & Administration:

    Negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions to secure advantageous terms and ensure compliance.
  • Operational Oversight:

    Oversee daily third-party manufacturing operations to ensure efficiency, quality, and adherence to production schedules.
  • Quality & Compliance:

    Ensure that all manufacturing activities comply with quality standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, specific industry regulations).
  • Process Improvement:

    Implement continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing principles across the external supply chain to reduce waste and optimize efficiency.
  • Coordination & Collaboration:

    Coordinate with internal departments (supply chain, quality control, engineering, sales) to align manufacturing goals and ensure seamless product launches.
  • Budget & P&L Management:

    Prepare and manage the operational budget for contract manufacturing, controlling costs and enhancing profitability.
  • Performance Monitoring:

    Monitor and analyze manufacturing performance metrics (KPIs) and report on performance.

Qualifications

  • Education:

    A Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is required. A Master's degree is often preferred.
  • Experience:

    A minimum of 15 years of experience in the manufacturing sector, with significant experience in contract or supply chain management.
  • Skills:

    • Strong understanding of contract manufacturing processes.
    • Proven project management and leadership abilities.
    • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and quality management systems.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
