Role Overview We are looking for a seasoned Freelance WordPress Team Lead to guide and oversee our remote WordPress development team. This leadership role is critical to shaping our technical strategy, ensuring code quality, and supporting our recruitment efforts. The ideal candidate will combine deep WordPress expertise with strong team leadership, mentorship, and evaluation capabilities. This role does not follow a flexible working hours model, but it can be comfortably managed after your current job hours. Our entire team is dedicated to working on projects and with clients. Your responsibilities will not be daily; they will primarily involve recruitment, developing technical strategies for new projects, and participating in occasional technical calls during the week. You will have sufficient time to complete your tasks, as they are not bound to fixed hours. This makes it easier to manage alongside your existing schedule. Key Responsibilities Define and maintain technical standards and best practices for WordPress projects. Stay updated with the latest WordPress technologies, tools, and trends to guide the team effectively. Provide guidance and support to WordPress developers for any new updates that come in WordPress. Troubleshoot complex issues and support developers with technical roadblocks. Help scope new features or projects, estimating effort and identifying dependencies. Support hiring by conducting technical interviews and reviewing candidate assessments. Evaluate technical skills, coding standards, and overall fit for the team. Required Skills And Qualifications 5+ years of hands-on experience in WordPress development, with team leadership responsibilities. Deep understanding of WordPress core, theme and plugin development, and customizations. Proficiency in PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL. Experience with REST APIs, third-party integrations, and security standards. Proven track record of mentoring and leading development teams. Strong communication skills and ability to give constructive feedback. Experience with performance tuning, debugging, and site architecture. Bonus Familiarity with agile development workflows.
