Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Fractional CFO with a proven track record in EdTech startups to provide strategic financial leadership on a part-time basis. Key Responsibilities

Financial Strategy & Planning

• Develop and execute comprehensive financial strategies aligned with business growth objectives
• Lead annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes
• Create financial models for new product launches, market expansion, and investment scenarios
• Provide strategic guidance on pricing strategies for educational products and services

Fundraising & Investor Relations

• Lead fundraising efforts including Series A, B, and beyond
• Prepare investor materials, pitch decks, and due diligence documentation
• Maintain relationships with current investors and provide regular financial updates
• Support M&A activities and strategic partnerships

Financial Operations & Controls

• Establish and maintain robust financial controls, policies, and procedures
• Oversee cash flow management and ensure optimal working capital efficiency
• Implement scalable accounting systems and processes suitable for rapid growth
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements

Business Intelligence & Analytics

• Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) specific to EdTech business models
• Create executive dashboards and financial reporting for leadership team and board
• Analyze unit economics, customer acquisition costs, and lifetime value metrics
• Provide insights on student engagement, retention, and monetization patterns

Team Leadership & Development

• Mentor and develop finance team members
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Engineering, and Sales
• Partner with CEO and leadership team on strategic initiatives

Required Qualifications

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
• CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred
• Additional certifications in financial planning or analysis are a plus

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience
• 3+ years of CFO or senior finance executive experience in EdTech startups
• Proven track record of successfully raising venture capital funding ($5M+ rounds)
• Experience with SaaS business models and subscription-based revenue recognition

Industry-Specific Experience

• Deep understanding of EdTech market dynamics and business models
• Experience with educational compliance requirements (FERPA, COPPA, etc.)
• Knowledge of student information systems, learning management systems, or educational content platforms
• Familiarity with B2B sales cycles in education sector (K-12, higher education, corporate training)

Technical Skills

• Advanced proficiency in financial modeling and Excel/Google Sheets
• Experience with modern accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar)
• Familiarity with financial planning tools (Adaptive Insights, Planful, etc.)
• Knowledge of data analytics tools and business intelligence platforms

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Fractional CFO or consultant to multiple startups
• Track record of successful exits (IPO or acquisition) in EdTech or related sectors
• Experience with international expansion and multi-currency operations
• Background in educational institutions or deep understanding of education sector challenges
• Network of contacts in EdTech investor community
