Job Overview: The Fire & Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all personnel by implementing and maintaining effective fire safety and general safety protocols within the organization. This role involves the development, monitoring, and enforcement of fire & safety standards, including the management of the Work Permit System and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, in accordance with Indian safety regulations and best practices. Key Responsibilities: 1. Fire Safety Management: Implement, and maintain fire safety policies and procedures. Conduct regular fire risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards. Ensure that fire detection, alarm, and suppression systems are properly installed, maintained, and tested. Organize fire drills, safety training, and emergency response exercises for all employees. Investigate fire incidents and accidents, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions. 2. Work Permit System Management: Oversee the issuance, monitoring, and closure of work permits, ensuring that all hazardous work activities (hot work, confined space entry, electrical work, etc.) are conducted safely. Verify that risk assessments are conducted before work permits are issued and ensure that all necessary safety precautions are in place. Coordinate with department heads and supervisors to ensure compliance with the Work Permit System. Maintain accurate records of all work permits and ensure that they are readily available for inspection. 3. Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Procedure: Implement LOTO procedures to ensure that equipment and machinery are properly isolated and de-energized before maintenance or servicing. Train employees and contractors on the importance and execution of LOTO procedures. Monitor compliance with LOTO procedures and conduct regular inspections to ensure that LOTO devices are being used correctly. Investigate any LOTO-related incidents and take corrective actions to prevent recurrence. 4. Safety Compliance and Audits: Ensure compliance with local, state, and national fire safety and occupational safety regulations and other relevant legislation. Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of the workplace, identifying areas for improvement. Maintain up-to-date safety records and documentation, including fire safety equipment logs, safety training records, and incident reports. Liaise with local fire authorities and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and readiness for inspections. 5. Emergency Preparedness and Response: Maintain an effective emergency response plan, including evacuation procedures and assembly points. Lead the emergency response team and coordinate activities during emergency situations. Ensure that all emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers, hoses, and emergency lighting, is regularly inspected and maintained. 6. Training and Awareness: Conduct safety training sessions and workshops for employees, contractors, and visitors on fire safety, LOTO, work permit systems, and general safety practices. Promote a strong safety culture within the organization by raising awareness of fire safety and general safety issues. Develop safety trainings, audios, videos, bulletins and other communication tools to keep staff informed of safety updates and best practices. Qualifications: Education: B. Sc./B.Tech. in any steam and Diploma in Fire Safety or Industrial Safety, or a related field. Certification in fire safety, occupational safety, or similar qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) is preferred. Experience: 3-5 years of experience in fire safety and occupational health and safety, preferably in an industrial or logistics environment. Skills: Strong knowledge of Indian fire safety regulations and occupational safety standards. Excellent communication and training skills. Ability to conduct risk assessments and safety audits. Proficiency in using safety management tools. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Key Competencies: Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
