The E&N Coding Team Lead is responsible for supervising the coding team handling Evaluation & Management (E&M) and related specialities. The role ensures high-quality coding, workflow efficiency, compliance with payer guidelines, and timely delivery of client SLAs. The Team Lead also supports audits, training, performance management, and continuous operational improvements.
Key Responsibilities Operational & Team Management
- Lead and manage a team of E&N/E&M coders to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly targets.
- Allocate work based on volume, complexity, and coder competency levels.
- Monitor team productivity and quality metrics, and ensure compliance with client SLAs.
- Conduct daily huddles, share updates, and communicate operational priorities.
- Ensure timely submission of reports, dashboards, and work queues.
Quality & Compliance
- Review coded charts for accuracy and ensure adherence to CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and payer-specific guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Quality Auditor to identify trends, errors, and root causes.
- Drive corrective action plans to reduce errors and improve coding accuracy.
- Ensure all coders follow compliance guidelines and company policies.
Training & Development
- Identify skill gaps and provide coaching, refresher training, and guidance.
- Assist new coders with onboarding, process training, and evaluation.
- Maintain team knowledge on regulatory changes, payer updates, and code set revisions.
Stakeholder & Client Coordination
- Serve as a point of contact for internal teams and client counterparts.
- Participate in client calls, audits, feedback sessions, and performance reviews.
- Provide timely updates on production, quality issues, and escalations.
People Management
- Drive employee engagement, recognition, and retention initiatives within the team.
- Conduct performance appraisals, one-on-one discussions, and mentoring sessions.
- Manage shift schedules, attendance, leave approvals, and backup planning.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to optimise workflows, automate reporting, and eliminate inefficiencies.
- Lead initiatives to improve coding quality, reduce denials, and enhance productivity.
- Support operational excellence initiatives and contribute to the standardisation of processes.
Skills & Competencies Required Technical Skills
- Certified CPC / COC / CIC preferred.
- Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, NCCI edits, MUE rules, and payer-specific coding guidelines.
- Expertise in E&M coding (office, inpatient, observation, ED E&M, consults).
- Familiarity with global billing rules, telehealth coding, and documentation standards.
Managerial & Soft Skills

- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in Excel, reporting tools, and workflow management systems.
Experience & Education
- Bachelor s Degree or equivalent.
- CPC or equivalent coding certification mandatory.
- Total Experience: 7-10 years
- Relevant experience of
4-6 years of RCM coding experience
, with at least 1-2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Prior experience in E&M / E&N coding processes is required.
