Job Description

Engineer/Sr. Engineer - Heat Treatment

Roles & Responsibilities:

Furnace Engineer who can take ownership of developing and optimizing heating and heat treatment cycles for titanium alloys used in aerospace applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of titanium metallurgy, be well-versed with AMS standards, and have hands-on experience running and maintaining furnaces in a controlled, high-quality environment.
If you enjoy combining deep technical knowledge with practical problem-solving and want to contribute to producing world-class aerospace components, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and establish heating cycles for titanium forging operations, ensuring precise temperature control and consistency across batches.
  • Define heat treatment cycles (such as solution treatment, aging, annealing, or stress relieving) for various titanium alloys in line with AMS specifications.
  • Ensure each process delivers the required metallurgical results including microstructure, grain size, and mechanical properties.
  • Develop furnace programs, monitor process parameters, and fine-tune cycles for better efficiency and repeatability.
  • Oversee daily furnace operations, including vacuum, inert gas, and air furnaces, ensuring all run within specification.
  • Maintain compliance with AMS 2750 (Pyrometry) for calibration, temperature uniformity, and instrumentation accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot furnace or process deviations and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Prepare and maintain complete heat treatment documentation, including charts, records, and traceability logs in line with NADCAP and AS9100 requirements.
  • Work closely with Quality and Metallurgy teams to validate results and confirm compliance with applicable AMS/ASTM standards.
  • Support internal and customer audits, ensuring processes and records are always up to standard

Desired Candidate Profile:

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical/electrical/metallurgy engineering.

Experience:

  • 2-7 years of relevant experience in furnace operations, heat treatment, and process control for titanium or aerospace materials.

Technical / Functional Expertise & other competencies:

  • Solid understanding of AMS standards (AMS 2750, AMS 4928, AMS 2801) and NADCAP heat treatment requirements.
  • Familiarity with pyrometry, thermocouple management, and furnace qualification protocols.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or precision metallurgical manufacturing environments is a strong advantage.
