Position Overview

Engineer QS

Key Responsibilities

A. Quantity Take-Off & BOQ Preparation

  • Study and interpret architectural, structural, MEP, irrigation, water supply, and infrastructure drawings.
  • Prepare accurate quantity take-offs (civil, structural, E&M, and allied works).
  • Develop and prepare BOQs as per project requirements, specifications, and tender formats.
  • Ensure quantity calculations are consistent with design changes and updated drawings.

B. Cost Estimation & Rate Analysis

  • Prepare preliminary and detailed cost estimates for ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Conduct rate analysis for civil, mechanical, electrical, and project-specific works.
  • Assist in developing cost databases, material prices, and labor productivity norms.
  • Coordinate with procurement for vendor quotations and market rate updates.

C. Tender & Design Support

  • Support the Design team by providing cost implications of design options.
  • Prepare cost comparisons for alternative materials, construction methods, and design revisions.
  • Assist Tender Department with pricing sheets, pre-bid queries, and technical-commercial submissions.

D. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain updated quantity and cost sheets for all projects.
  • Prepare MIS reports on project quantities, cost variations, and savings.
  • Ensure documentation accuracy and compliance with internal systems.

E. Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with Design Engineers, Procurement, Contracts, and Project Managers.
  • Attend internal review meetings and provide cost/quantity clarifications.
  • Ensure timely delivery of QS data for approvals, design updates, and tender submissions.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of quantity surveying, cost estimation, and BOQ preparation.
  • Ability to read/design drawings (Civil, Structural, Mechanical/Electrical preferred).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Excel (advanced), and QS software/tools.
  • Understanding of CPWD/State PWD/Water Sector specifications.
  • Good analytical ability and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.

Qualifications

  • B.E./B.Tech Civil Engineering
    (Diploma in Civil Engineering with strong QS experience can also be considered)

Experience

  • 2 to 5 years

    of relevant experience in QS, Estimation, or Costing role.
  • Experience in

    water supply, irrigation, infrastructure, industrial projects, or EPC projects

    will be an added advantage.
