Engineer - Intellectual Property

Role Overview: As an IP Analytics Specialist at our company, your main responsibility will be to conduct IP analytics for programs related to Electrification, Electromechanical Systems, Power Systems, Power Electronics, or Smart Grid across all Eaton businesses. You will be expected to perform various prior art searches using open and specialized patent and literature databases. Additionally, you should be able to read and analyze a large volume of patents and literature, and effectively communicate complex technologies and concepts in a clear manner to drive business decisions. Furthermore, you will play a key role in conducting patent landscape and watch analysis, identifying competitor trends and emerging technologies, and supporting the development of an IP strategy to protect and commercialize key technologies. Your technical expertise in understanding electrical and electronics technologies, particularly those related to Electrification, Electromechanical Systems, Power Systems, Power Electronics, or Smart Grid, will be crucial. Collaboration with cross-functional Engineering teams across Eaton's business units to gather technical information for invention disclosures and assisting legal teams in assessing patentability will also be part of your responsibilities. Knowledge of various patent analyses such as claims mapping, portfolio analysis, whitespace analysis, licensing, and drafting would be considered a valuable asset. Key Responsibilities: - Conduct various prior art searches including Landscapes, patentability, Freedom-to-Operate, and patent validity/invalidity assessment using open and specialized patent and literature databases - Read and analyze a significant volume of patents and literature, and effectively communicate complex technologies and concepts to business stakeholders - Perform patent landscape and watch analysis, identify competitor trends and emerging technologies, and assist in developing an IP strategy - Quickly grasp technologies in the electrical and electronics domain, especially those related to Electrification, Electromechanical Systems, Power Systems, Power Electronics, or Smart Grid - Collaborate with cross-functional Engineering teams to gather technical information for invention disclosures and support legal teams in assessing patentability - Knowledge of other patent analyses like claims mapping, portfolio analysis, whitespace analysis, licensing, and drafting would be advantageous Qualifications: - Masters in Mechanical/Aero/Automotive/Mechatronics with 1-2 years of experience or Bachelors with 3+ years of experience Additional Company Details: (No additional details were provided in the job description),
