Description
Job Title: Electrical- EHV Substation
Job Level: DGM
Function: Design & Engineering
Location : Mumbai/Hyderabad
Reporting to : Design Head- AI Projects
Purpose of the Job
The Lead Design Electrical (EHV Substation) will be responsible for leading the design, engineering, and coordination of Extra High Voltage (EHV) and High Voltage (HV) substations that form the backbone of power supply for AI Data Centers. As an individual contributor, the role involves developing robust, efficient, and reliable substation designs to support the high-density power and uptime requirements of AI infrastructure. The incumbent will handle complete design documentation, from concept through detailed design and implementation, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, utility regulations, and project specifications. This position requires deep expertise in substation engineering, protection systems, and power transmission integration to deliver resilient electrical infrastructure for mission-critical AI Data Centers.
Key Deliverables:
1. Lead the conceptual and detailed design of EHV/HV substations (220kV/132kV and above), including layout, equipment sizing, SLDs, and system protection architecture.
2. Develop detailed engineering deliverables—BOQs, specifications, data sheets, and drawings—for switchyards, transformers, switchgear, and associated control systems.
3. Conduct electrical system studies such as load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, and earthing design using specialized software tools.
4. Coordinate with utilities, consultants, OEMs, and internal design teams to ensure grid connectivity, interface alignment, and technical compliance.
5. Review and evaluate vendor designs, engineering drawings, and proposals to ensure adherence to standards and project performance requirements.
6. Provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning phases by addressing design clarifications and resolving on-site issues.
Key Competencies:
1. Strong technical expertise in substation design, protection systems, and high-voltage network integration.
2. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to safety, reliability, and quality.
3. Effective communication and coordination skills for working with internal and external stakeholders.
4. Ability to work independently as an individual contributor while aligning with cross-functional project goals.
5. High level of accuracy, documentation discipline, and project execution focus.
6. Commitment to compliance, innovation, and continuous improvement in electrical design and engineering.
Experience Required:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
2. Minimum 10–12 years of experience in electrical design, with at least 5 years focused on EHV/HV substation design and engineering.
3. Proven experience in AIS/GIS substation design for 220kV, 132kV, or higher voltage levels, including protection, control, and SCADA systems.
4. Proficiency in design and analysis tools such as ETAP, CYME, AutoCAD, DIALux, and MS Office.
5. Sound knowledge of relevant standards and codes—IEC, IEEE, IS, CEA, and grid interconnection regulations.
6. Experience collaborating with utilities, EPC contractors, and multidisciplinary design teams for large-scale industrial or data center projects.
