Job Overview:
The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Officer is responsible for overseeing and ensuring that the organizations operations comply with environmental, health, and safety regulations. This position plays a key role in promoting a safe and healthy workplace while minimizing the environmental impact of the company's activities. The EHS Officer is responsible for identifying potential hazards, creating safety policies, conducting audits, and providing training to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance and Regulatory Monitoring:
- Ensure the organization’s adherence to all local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Monitor and interpret regulatory changes and make recommendations to ensure continued compliance.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws, standards, and best practices in EHS.
Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification:
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential environmental, health, and safety hazards in the workplace.
- Implement risk management strategies to mitigate identified risks.
Safety Policies and Procedures:
- Develop, review, and enforce safety policies and procedures to prevent accidents and incidents.
- Ensure that emergency response plans and procedures are in place and updated regularly.
- Develop guidelines for safe work practices and ensure they are followed.
Training and Awareness:
- Design and conduct EHS training programs for employees to ensure understanding and adherence to safety protocols.
- Raise awareness about workplace safety and environmental conservation through campaigns, workshops, and regular briefings.
- Educate staff on the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety measures.
Incident Management and Reporting:
- Investigate and report workplace incidents, accidents, near misses, and environmental breaches.
- Document and maintain records of incidents, providing recommendations for corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports as required by law.
Environmental Management:
- Monitor and manage the organization’s environmental footprint, including waste management, water usage, energy consumption, and emissions.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and seek opportunities for sustainability and energy efficiency improvements.
- Implement programs to reduce waste and promote recycling and sustainable practices.
Audits and Inspections:
- Perform routine safety audits, inspections, and compliance checks across the workplace.
- Prepare for external regulatory inspections and ensure all required documentation is in place.
Continuous Improvement:
- Continuously evaluate and improve the EHS management system.
- Encourage a proactive safety culture and ensure that improvements are communicated and implemented across the organization.
