Job Title: Duty Medical Officer (DMO)

Department: Medical Services / Clinical Operations

Job Summary

The Duty Medical Officer is responsible for providing continuous medical care to patients, handling emergency cases, supporting consultants, and ensuring smooth clinical operations during assigned shifts. The role is critical in maintaining patient safety, timely medical intervention, and adherence to hospital protocols.

Key Responsibilities

· Provide medical care to inpatients and emergency cases during duty hours

· Assess, diagnose, and initiate treatment for patients as per hospital guidelines

· Handle medical emergencies and stabilize patients until senior consultants arrive

· Monitor patient progress and update treatment plans in coordination with consultants

· Perform routine clinical examinations and document findings accurately

· Ensure proper handover between shifts

· Respond promptly to codes, emergencies, and referrals within the hospital

· Supervise nursing and paramedical staff during duty hours

· Maintain accurate medical records and reports

· Follow hospital policies, NABH standards, and infection control protocols

· Attend OPD patients when required during duty hours

· Interpret basic lab reports, X-rays, ECGs, and other investigations

· Ensure timely admission, discharge, and transfer of patients

· Coordinate with diagnostic departments for urgent investigations

· Inform consultants promptly about critical patient conditions

· Counsel patients and attendants regarding treatment plans and progress

· Ensure medico-legal cases (MLC) are handled and documented properly

· Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement activities

Qualifications

· MBBS from a recognized medical college

· Valid Medical Council Registration (State or National)

Experience

· Minimum 2 years of clinical experience

· Experience in emergency or hospital settings preferred

· Rotational shifts (day/night)

· Able to review, interpret, and precisely communicate investigation results and clinical findings to senior consultants for timely decision-making
