Discharge Typist – Job Description

Position Title: Discharge Typist
Department: Medical Records / Billing
Reporting To: MRD Incharge / Billing Manager

Job Summary:
Responsible for preparing accurate and timely discharge summaries, updating patient records, and coordinating with doctors and nursing staff to ensure smooth discharge processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Draft and type discharge summaries as per consultant’s instructions.
• Collect and verify patient treatment details, diagnosis, and procedures from doctors and nursing staff.
• Ensure accuracy in medical terminology, patient data, and coding details.
• Update Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and maintain proper documentation.
• Coordinate with billing, nursing, and ward teams for final discharge paperwork.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
• Perform proofreading to avoid spelling or data errors.
• Ensure timely delivery of discharge summaries to concerned departments.
• Assist in filing, scanning, and organizing patient case sheets.
• Support MRD team with additional documentation tasks as required.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Graduate or equivalent qualification.
• Good typing speed and accuracy.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Basic computer and EMR handling skills.
• Strong communication and coordination abilities.
• Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.

Work Experience:

• 2 –3 years (Hospital experience preferable).

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
