Job Description

Position Overview

The Level 3 Windows and VMware Specialist with SCOM, HCI and DFS knowledge is a critical role in the IT department, responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our organization's Windows server environments, VMware virtualization infrastructures, Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI), and Distributed File System (DFS) solutions. Having extensive experience in managing and maintaining System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) environments will add advantage. This role requires an individual with a high level of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various teams to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the IT infrastructure that supports core organizational functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Implementation: Lead the design and implementation of complex Windows server solutions, VMware virtualization infrastructures, HCI deployments, and DFS configurations to meet business requirements and IT standards.
  • Maintenance and Optimization: Perform regular system maintenance, including patching, upgrades, and optimizations, to ensure high availability, security, and performance of the Windows and VMware environments, as well as HCI and DFS systems.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Provide Level 3 support for resolving complex issues related to Windows servers, VMware environments, HCI, and DFS. This includes being part of the on-call rotation and working closely with other IT teams to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Capacity Planning and Performance Monitoring: Conduct capacity planning and ongoing performance monitoring of Windows and VMware systems, HCI platforms, and DFS, recommending improvements and enhancements to support growth and performance objectives.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system designs, configurations, processes, and service records. Ensure compliance with internal policies and industry best practices for Windows and VMware management, HCI, and DFS.
  • Collaboration and Leadership: Collaborate with IT team members, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. Mentor junior staff and contribute to the development of internal knowledge bases and training materials.
  • SCOM Administration: Manage and maintain the SCOM infrastructure, including the installation, configuration, and deployment of SCOM components.
  • Monitoring and Alerts: Develop and implement monitoring solutions to ensure the health and performance of IT systems. Configure alerts and notifications to proactively address potential issues.
  • Troubleshooting: Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis of SCOM-related issues. Resolve complex technical problems and provide solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Performance Tuning: Optimize the performance of the SCOM environment by fine-tuning configurations and ensuring efficient resource utilization.
  • Integration: Integrate SCOM with other monitoring tools and IT service management systems to enhance overall monitoring capabilities.
  • Reporting: Generate and analyze reports on system performance, availability, and capacity. Provide insights and recommendations based on data analysis.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of the SCOM environment, including configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Mentorship: Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members. Share best practices and knowledge to enhance the team's overall capabilities.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to IT policies, standards, and best practices. Implement security measures to protect the SCOM environment.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in managing Windows Server environments and VMware virtualization.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) solutions and Distributed File System (DFS).
  • Proficient in Windows server administration, Active Directory, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience with VMware ESXi, vCenter, and vSAN.
  • Strong understanding of SCOM architecture and components.
  • Experience with SCOM management packs, overrides, and customizations.
  • Experience with integrating SCOM with other monitoring and ITSM tools.
  • Understanding of network protocols, firewall management, and security best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a strong customer service orientation.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to document processes and present ideas clearly.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., MCSE, VCP, etc.) are highly desirable.

Working Conditions

  • This position may require supporting US business hours with rotational shift between evening and night shift in India hours to meet project deadlines or resolve critical system issues.
  • Some travel may be required for system deployments or training purposes.
