DB2 & Netezza Patch Engineer

Key Responsibilities

DB2 Patching & Administration

• Automate DB2 patching tasks including fix pack installation, DB2 CLI commands, and HADR checks.
  
• Install, configure, and maintain IBM DB2 databases on

  AIX

  and

  Windows

  platforms.
• Perform routine DBA tasks such as

  backup & recovery

  .
• Plan and execute

  DB2 Fix Packs, Security Updates, HIPER/APAR

  fixes.
• Work with Application, Infrastructure & Change Management teams for patch scheduling.
  
• Perform patch testing in Sandbox & Non-Production, including rollback tests.
  
• Conduct post-deployment validation with application teams.
  
• Run vulnerability scans and map findings to appropriate fix packs.
  
• Perform monitoring and troubleshooting using DB2 logs, CLI tools, and health checks.
  
• Support audits, maintain documentation, and prepare RCA for patch-related issues.
  
• Implement rollback procedures when needed.
  
• Ensure timely remediation of overdue patches.
  

Netezza Patching & Administration

• Execute Netezza patching, firmware updates, and security patch deployments (including

  ICPDS support

  ).
• Perform remote shell execution, log parsing, and backup automation.
  
• Apply firmware and OS patches as per

  CVE

  and security requirements.
• Conduct pre- and post-patch validations: diagnostics, log collection, hardware checks.
  
• Troubleshoot patch failures including firmware mismatches and script issues.
  
• Validate patch installation using system logs, query tests, and console checks.
  
• Use

  nzsql, nzstats

  and other Netezza utilities for monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Implement rollback procedures for failed patching sessions.
  
• Use OS-level vulnerability scanning tools for host issue resolution.
  
• Maintain documentation and support audit activities.
  

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience in

  DB2 Administration

  and

  Netezza Patching

  .
• In-depth knowledge of patching procedures, rollback strategies, and vulnerability management.
  
• Experience with

  ICPDS patch support

  and OS-level security tools.
• Strong scripting skills for automation (remote shell, log parsing).
  
• Knowledge of DB2 and Netezza

  backup & recovery

  processes.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
