Job Description

Job purpose : Maintain, upgrade and manage the database systems in Microlise Data Center. Actively diagnose and resolve problems Job Responsibilities Database and query performance troubleshooting and tuning. Day to day support and administration of all areas of SQL and data warehousing environments. ¢ SQL server patching, Version upgrades, migrations, SSRS, SSIS troubleshooting etc. ¢ Strong root cause analyses skills for urgent live issues. ¢ Database move and handle corruption on system database and user database. ¢ Database refresh/upgrade and data correction work, Performance tuning, capacity planning. ¢ Archiving, backup and restore best practices including robust security policies. ¢ Automation of regular tasks and maintenance tasks. ¢ Assisting developers, implementation and support staff with putting together complex database queries and stored procedures. ¢ Establishing and maintaining company standards and guidelines for SQL. ¢ Contributing to product improvements, ease of use, reliability and reducing support levels. Key Evaluation Criteria ¢ The successful candidate will demonstrate how they can add value to the business by explaining and delivering what best practises and technical methods they have used and which they can implement to allow us to deliver leading edge web-based applications. ¢ In addition, we are also looking for someone who has the experience and knowledge to provide out the box thinking to deliver business requirements in a fast pace ever changing environment. Qualifications & Capabilities Essential ¢ The successful applicant must be able to work independently and within a team environment to help support internal business and external client systems. A mature, professional attitude with good interpersonal and customer facing skills and a flexible attitude to working hours are essential. ¢ Proven experience in a similar role and with a real passion and drive for database administration. 3 to 6 years of relevant experience. ¢ Excellent time management skills, with the ability to deliver accurate quality work to agreed timescales and manage and prioritise own. ¢ Great communication skills to effectively collaborate with geographically separated teams ¢ Relishes a fast pace ever changing environment. ¢ Should be a team player. ¢ Good knowledge on best practices but also out of the box thinking to provide business solutions. ¢ Good Knowledge of PowerShell, especially working on PowerShell for automations. ¢ A great understanding and experience in Microsoft SQL server 2016 to 2022 including installation, configuration, administration, Availability Groups and Clustering. ¢ Some level of experience with SSRS, SSAS and SSIS, also CDC etc. ¢ Experience of 3rd party monitoring tools (DPA, SolarWinds, Redgate SQL Monitor, Grafana). ¢ Always on and Replication hands-on experience is a must. ¢ Flexibility to work in 24*7 with rotational shift model (morning, afternoon or night shifts. Weekly offs as per roster, not necessary on Saturday and Sunday) Desirable ¢ Database architecture ¢ Experience on various versions of MS SQL SERVER. ¢ Tools like Service now, Confluence, AZDO Familiarity with Linux commands ¢ Couchbase hands-on knowledge is a plus. ¢ PostgreSQL hands-on knowledge is also a plus Microsoft SQL server certification DP-300
