Core Responsibilities

1. Data Governance and Strategy

• Design and implement

  data governance operating models

  (data ownership, stewardship, and accountability structures).
• Develop and maintain

  data strategy roadmaps

  aligning with business, risk, and technology priorities.
• Define and embed

  data quality and integrity controls

  across data pipelines, ensuring trusted, traceable, and timely information.
• Partner with Chief Data Office and Risk Data teams to implement

  data lineage, metadata management, and business glossary

  frameworks.

2. Data Risk and Regulatory Compliance

• Interpret and operationalize

  BCBS 239

  principles for risk aggregation, reporting accuracy, and governance oversight.
• Support

  SOX 404 Information Integrity

  control testing across key data flows and financial systems.
• Lead reviews of

  data privacy and retention controls

  under GDPR and regional regulations (APRA CPS 234/230 equivalents).
• Conduct data risk assessments and develop

  risk control self-assessments (RCSAs)

  specific to data assets and regulatory use cases.

3. Data Control Framework and Assurance

• Develop and maintain a

  Data Control Library

  —mapping data risks to control points across ingestion, transformation, storage, and reporting layers.
• Oversee

  testing of data controls

  to assess design and operating effectiveness, coordinating with auditors and regulators.
• Implement

  control attestation processes

  and monitor remediation plans for identified data issues.
• Drive automation and visualization of data controls through enterprise tools (ServiceNow IRM, Collibra, Power BI, or similar).

4. Leadership and Delivery Management

• Lead a multi-disciplinary consulting team delivering

  data risk and governance engagements

  for global banking clients.
• Manage stakeholder relationships with CRO, CFO, and CDO organizations—translating technical data risks into actionable executive insights.
• Support pre-sales, proposal writing, and thought leadership in Data Risk & Governance consulting.
• Mentor junior consultants and contribute to building internal Data Risk capability and accelerators.

Required Skills and Experience

• 10–14 years of experience in

  Data Management, Data Governance, or Risk Data Programs

  within large banks or consulting environments.
• Strong understanding of

  BCBS 239

  ,

  SOX 404 (Information Integrity)

  ,

  GDPR

  , and

  Data Retention

  frameworks.
• Proven experience defining

  data control frameworks

  , implementing

  data quality KPIs/KRIs

  , and managing control testing.
• Demonstrated leadership in

  data-driven transformation programs

  , ideally bridging business, risk, and technology stakeholders.
• Proficiency in

  data governance or metadata management tools

  (Collibra, Informatica, ServiceNow IRM, Alteryx, or equivalent).
• Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.

Preferred Background

• Prior experience in banking or financial services data programs (e.g., ANZ, NAB, Westpac, HSBC, etc.)
• Exposure to

  risk data aggregation

  ,

  data lineage documentation

  , or

  SOX assurance

  for data integrity.
• Consulting experience (Big 4, global advisory, or managed services model) is an advantage.
• Certifications such as

  CISA, CRISC, CDMP, DCAM
