Role Overview
As a Country Conditions Research Assistant, you will undertake project-based research and report drafting on political, social, economic, and human rights conditions across various countries. You will be engaged on a subcontractor basis and compensated per project, milestone, or agreed deliverable.This is a fully remote, flexible role suitable for researchers, analysts, or writers with strong subject-matter knowledge and the ability to produce rigorous, evidence-based work.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough desk-based research on country-specific political, social, economic, and human rights developments.
- Draft clear, structured, and well-referenced reports tailored to legal and professional standards.
- Identify, evaluate, and cite credible sources (e.g., government publications, NGO reports, academic journals, reputable media).
- Review and refine written content for clarity, accuracy, structure, and tone.
- Manage multiple assignments independently and meet agreed project deadlines.
- Collaborate with senior researchers or case managers as needed on revisions and quality checks.
Ideal Profile
- Exceptional research capability with the ability to synthesize information quickly and accurately.
- Advanced English writing skills, especially in formal, analytical, and evidence-based formats.
- Strong attention to detail, referencing standards, and factual accuracy.
- Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and deliver high-quality work remotely.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to evaluate information critically and present it logically.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, Human Rights, Law, Journalism, Public Policy, or a closely related field.
- (Bachelor’s degree may be considered with strong research experience.)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in research-intensive roles such as legal research, academic research, policy analysis, or journalism.
- Proven ability to write structured, well-cited reports.
- Strong understanding of global political and human rights issues.
- Access to a reliable internet connection and a professional remote working setup.
Preferred
- Prior work with research institutes, think tanks, legal teams, or academic centers.
- Experience with legal or academic writing formats (e.g., Harvard, APA).
- Familiarity with asylum, migration, or human rights documentation.
