Job Description

Role & responsibilities

  • Behavioral Interventions

    • Identify and work with students with a history of suspension, expulsion, corporal punishment, or recurring indiscipline.
    • Develop and implement

      Individual Behavior Support Plans (IBSPs)

      .
    • Conduct regular (weekly/biweekly) counselling check-ins and maintain detailed case records.
    • Collaborate with class teachers and involve parents for consistent support.
  • Emotional & Mental Health Counselling

    • Accept and address self-referrals or teacher referrals for emotional issues such as anxiety, stress, or trauma.
    • Maintain confidential logs with session summaries, strategies used, and progress.
    • Refer students to external professionals as needed, in consultation with parents.
  • Corporal Punishment Follow-up

    • Document all incidents reported or identified, including emotional response and support given.
    • Offer counselling sessions to aid emotional recovery and ensure parental involvement.
    • Present anonymized incident trends to the Principal monthly.

II. Parental Counselling

  • Engage parents of students with behavioral or emotional concerns.
  • Maintain records of discussions, outcomes, and follow-ups.
  • Guide parents on implementing positive discipline strategies, consistent routines, and effective communication at home.

III. Teacher Training & Staff Development

  • Plan and conduct monthly teacher development sessions (30 minutes each) on topics such as:
    • Positive discipline
    • Trauma-informed practices
    • Handling impulsivity
    • Building safe and connected classrooms
  • Use real (anonymous) case studies to facilitate reflection and growth.
  • Collect and review feedback to assess the impact of training.

IV. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain up-to-date logs across various categories:
    • Behavioral and emotional cases
    • Corporal punishment recovery
    • Parent counselling
    • Group/individual sessions
    • Teacher workshops
    • Principal meetings and reviews
  • Submit regular reports to the Principal and highlight key areas requiring support or intervention.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Masters degree in Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or a related field
  • Prior experience in school counselling or child psychology preferred
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed and inclusive educational practices
  • Training in child protection and safeguarding is an advantage

Performance Evaluation Criteria

Performance will be evaluated across domains such as:

  • Behavioral and emotional case management
  • Crisis handling and mental health support
  • Parent and teacher engagement
  • Training quality and frequency
  • Communication with school leadership
  • Timeliness, documentation, and accountability

Work Schedule & Review

  • Full academic year
  • Biweekly review meetings with the Principal
  • Monthly reporting for key metrics and progress
