I. Job Summary

The Continuous Improvement / Lean Specialist is responsible for championing and deploying Lean methodologies and principles across the organization to eliminate waste, improve efficiency, enhance quality, and drive cultural change. This role involves leading Kaizen events, conducting in-depth process analysis, and training personnel to build a sustainable culture of continuous improvement.

II. Key Responsibilities

A. Lean Implementation & Event Leadership

  • Lead and facilitate cross-functional Kaizen events focused on specific process improvement opportunities, ensuring rapid execution and documented results.
  • Conduct Value Stream Mapping (VSM) exercises to identify non-value-added activities (Muda) and calculate quantifiable opportunities for cycle time reduction and efficiency gains.
  • Design and implement 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) programs in work areas to promote visual management and a disciplined, safe environment.
  • Develop, document, and standardize best practices and Standard Work instructions across critical processes.

B. Process Analysis & Measurement

  • Perform Gemba walks regularly to observe processes, understand reality, and build relationships with frontline staff.
  • Utilize Root Cause Analysis (RCA) techniques (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams) to permanently resolve critical operational bottlenecks and quality issues.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to Lean activities, such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), lead time, and cost savings.
  • Use basic statistical analysis tools to validate process changes and measure the impact of implemented solutions.

C. Training & Cultural Development

  • Develop and deliver internal training programs on core Lean tools (e.g., VSM, 5S, A3 Problem Solving, Kata) to employees at all levels.
  • Act as a coach and mentor to operational leaders and teams, fostering a mindset of continuous improvement and problem-solving at the source.
  • Maintain the CI project funnel, prioritizing initiatives based on organizational strategic goals and expected financial returns.

III. Required Qualifications

  • Education:

    Bachelors degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing), Business Administration, or a related technical field.
  • Experience:

    Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience successfully implementing Lean tools and techniques in a manufacturing, operations, or service environment.
  • Certifications:

    Proven proficiency and certification in Lean principles (e.g., Lean Practitioner, Lean Green Belt, or Six Sigma Green Belt certification).
  • Skills:

    • Expert-level ability to facilitate effective Kaizen and VSM workshops.
    • Strong data analysis skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or statistical software.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting complex findings to senior management.
    • Demonstrated project management experience, managing multiple improvement initiatives concurrently.
